Labor and Recovery after strict bedrest!!!

Dear all,

I am 29W2d... and have been on strict bedrest 4r the past 20wks with toilet privileges... I have been diagnosed with GD... and so I do a bit of exercising on my bed by just lifting about 500gms of weight on each hand... and guess what its so painful... I think I have lost my muscle tone completely... even having a shower is very tiresome exercise for me... I think thats coz I have pelvic instabilty... standing up takes ages and gives me too much pain...now this makes me wonder how I am going to have the energy to push during my delivery... and wondering how I can lift my baby in the initial stages...

Is there any advice for me from people who have been through this...

TIA...

You have been a real trooper so far! Sorry it has been painful for you. I have not been in this situation, but I was watching a show on TLC the other day about a quadriplegic woman who gave birth to her baby after a full 9 months of bedrest. She had a natural delivery that went well (I have no idea HOW but it's what they said on the show). I guess she had some muscle control in her midsection. But I know if she could do it, you will be able to, too! I'm sure it won't be a picnic getting back on your feet after the birth, but just take it easy and make sure you ask for help when you need it. Good luck!

I think every one is different but I was on strict bed rest from 27-36 weeks and then modified until I delivered at 37w5d (twins). I don't think the actual pushing was any more difficult than with my first - the body just sort of takes over. But I was lucky in that I only pushed for maybe 45 minutes for the first and 3 pushes for the second twin. Afterwards it was tough - it took weeks to get some feeling of strength and tone back after the weeks of bed rest but again somehow you just do it - I was so busy caring for a 2 year old and the twins I didn't have a choice.

Good luck ! Susan

Mari... Thanks for the kind words and support... appreciate it... I guess its just going to be a C-Section now... hope she turns around by then... I really want to go for natural birth... I dont want trouble with breast feeding and bonding, etc

Susan... thanks for that... I guess your right... too busy with the baby to realize anything else...
