x-post Preparation for Bar Mitzvah for my ADHD son

My soon to be 12 year old son has ADHD, anxiety and a Tourette's variant but we have things under good control with medications. He will become Bar Mitzvah a year from this May. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions on how to get him through his lessons as easily as possible??? Our synagogue is not great about initiating lessons with ANY of the kids so I will really need to be on the ball and advocate for him. He is in regular classes with support at school and has done fine in Hebrew school, but I worry about his ability to stay on task with this new challenge and about the ability or willingness of the staff to keep him engaged and not get frustrated with him.

    TIA,

    Bash

i think you should call the synagogue and let them know that you have been given your son's bar mitzvah date and you feel he will need more time to prepare then normally. it is worth paying extra money to have a tutor start now so he has the extra time.

lara has a visual perception learning problem and we started her lessons a year before.......her bat mitzvah is this july. she is actually running the whole saturday night service herself.............she knows her torah portion but is now learning the melody.
