I have a question - if they can terminate one viable baby at this point with Selective Reduction, why can they not do something to get the Molar out? I'm not familiar with any of this but if one can be passed - why can't the other?

With selective reduction, the heart is stopped, and the fetus is reabsorbed into the body. Nothing is expelled.

With this, anything put into the blood supply could go to the babies as well. Additionally, they can't clamp it off because it can cause the uterus to start contracting and then miscarry. And they can't do a D&C for the same reason.

I had an OB appt this morning....obviously we talked about this. Her feeling is that there are alot of positive things going on (babies growing well, no heavy bleeding, no severe nausea), so the wait and see method might be the best.

    MomNC....your strength amazes me.

    How are you coping?

Your OB news is something positive to hold onto considering the seriousness of the situation you are facing. I am hopeful that you will make it.

Big Big hugs to you! I was going to ask the same question about Selective Reduction but someone already did.
I hope the molar prg does like everyone is praying for and just reabsorb. I'm going to look it up so I know more about it, too.
There has to be some specialist somewhere who deals with this sort of complication...if there is, I pray you find that someone.
Prayers for you and your little twins.

Ok - I read a few articles on this and there are two different types of Mole's. Some of them do not grow but others were larger than the fetus. From what I remember yours was not large; therefore, was being out-grown by the babies which is a good sign. I also read articles detailing live birth (along with the molar) between 28 and 31 weeks.

One article I did read said that the decision to continue the pregnancy had more to do with the mothers risk and the risks associated with it.

Do you know what kind of Molar? Did anyone suggest additional testing to see what kind of molar you have?

Oh MomNC, I just saw your post and I am so very sorry. Big hugs to you and you are certainly in our prayers these next weeks. I can't imagine how devastating this is to deal with, and I hope you start to see signs that the mole is diminishing soon. Wish there was something we could do to help.

I have a complete mole...where there is just a placenta and no fetus. A partial mole has a fetus...usually with severe genetic problems.

As for the delivery....most of the articles talk about 1 fetus and a mole...not 2 fetuses. I am very doubtful that 31 weeks will happen....we would be happy with 28! Heck, we would be happy with 25 at this point.

My labs from Monday were ok...so that is a good sign. Will let you all know how my US goes tomorrow.

    Thanks again.
