Cloth diapering

I have been thinking about this for about 3 or 4 months. I think I really am going to take the plunge. If you cloth diaper which ones do you use? Have you ever tried the gdiapers (www.gdiapers.com)? I really think it would be easier to just have to wash the inserts versus the whole diaper. If I did those I would use the cloth inserts. I am not sure which ones to try, but I keep coming back to the gdiapers. help!

::barge::

I have been using cloth diapers on my son since he was about 2 weeks old. I also have cloth wipes. Honestly they are all easy to me. You just need to find out what works best for you. I suggest that you get a few different kinds (fitteds, prefolds, one size, pockets, all in ones, all in two's) then figure out what you like best on your daughter.

For me I have found that sometimes I like fitteds (I have one size fitteds)and some times I like prefolds. This is what most of our HUGE stash is (I have 2 dozen prefolds, about 17 one size fitteds, and about 5 other diapers).

Also keep in mind that your child's clothes are not going to fit like they do with disposiable diapers. For instance my son wears a 2T when in cloth diapers, when in disposables (which I am having issues with my son's diaper due to amonia and a trip we recently took) my son can wear 6-9 month gymboree clothes.

The only other thing I can say is make sure you bring disposiable diapers on a trip. I learned that lesson the hard way since everyone's water is different and so is their washer. What works good for you at home doesn't mean it will work good on a trip!

Oh and I never did the G-diaper thing. I HATE velcro (aplix) so it really didn't appeal to me.

You should go on www dot diaper swappers dot com if you have any more questions. They have been great at helping me with all sorts of things.

Good luck!

We use cloth diapers- started at 2 months. We chose "Bum Genius" diapers, which have inserts & you have to wash both the diaper & insert. The upside is the savings & environmental concerns. The downsides are that they are bulkier (we just put the next size up pants on DD); you have to wash them every 3 or so days (2 wash cycles & 1 rinse cycle plus 1 drying cycle= a lot of running up and down the stairs); and then we have to stuff & fold the diapers which can be a pain- so they can be time intensive. The Bum Genius diapers have snaps on them to grow with the baby, so they can be used from newborn through age 2 or whenever. One other minor downside is that you shouldnt use diaper creams with them, the alternative is to put a flushable liner in the diaper between LO bottom & the diaper. We use those once in a while when DD has a rash & needs cream.

Overall, I would recommend Bum Genius/ cloth diapers. To me, they are worth it. We use them the majority of the time, but when feeling lazy & need to do a load of diapers, sometimes when DD has a rash, or when traveling, we use disposables.

FYI, we have not had issues with the diapers retaining scents (one of my friends had this issue with traditional cloth diapers). Also, my DH was worried about having to shake off the solids in the toilet, but its really no big deal.

I did it! I bought some cloth diapers. I bought 3 BG off of diaperswappers and then I really wanted to try the Rumperooz brand so I bought 4 off their website. I still think I will buy a few FB to try. I want to see these diapers first though before I buy anymore. I also bought some fabric to make some more inserts. I was wondering if I could also use old burp rags that I no longer really use. I think they are prefolds by Gerber. They are all colored printed fabric...does that matter (dyes, etc)???
Thanks girls...

Good for you Rachel! :yay:

The colored burp rags could be used as doublers but just make sure you wash them well in your cloth diaper detergent so they don't have repelling issues before you use them. The dyes shouldn't hurt though. Little Lions's actually sells colored prefolds.

Good luck! I hope you love your diapers!

Oh one last thing let me know if you want to try cloth wipes. I love my cloth wipes and I got them from a lady on DS.

Hi Rachel!! 1st- are you on Facebook?? look me up- Deidre Smith, Dallas, TX

we cloth diaper!! started it a couple months ago! I love it! I like that I am not always throwing millions of diapers in the garbage

I made the mistake of buying a bunch of stuff & wasting alot of money!

I bought dozens of prefolds & covers- HATE them! they are too bulky! I bought 12 Bum Genius 3.0- I don't like the velcro tabs- they cut into ryans stomach. I have 5 Rumparooz & I like them- I LOVE their 6r soaker inserts, I bought extras & I use them in my Fuzzi Bunz. I have about 20 or so of the Fuzzi Bunz. I LOVE these- I like the snaps the best, they stay put & don't catch on the carpet when Ryan is crawling. but my favorite is softbums! I love, love, love those (even tho they are velcro closures). DH loves them too! check them out Super Trim SoftBums Snap-ins diapers
