How many embie transferred for 3dt vs. 5dt??

    Hi Girls,

For those of you who have had multiple IVF's, have you had both 3dt's and 5dt's? If so, was the number transferred different for each one? My RE wants to try a blast transfer this time and only transfer 3 embies. If I end up doing a 3dt, he would recommend transferring 5 embies (which we have done for the past 2 cycles). Any help would be greatly appreciated, even if you don't have any personal experience, but do have knowledge on the subject.

    Thanks,
    Lynne

    Hi Lynn-

I've done two IVFs. My first one was a 3dt and we transferred 3. My second IVF we did a 5dt blast transfer and put back 2. Both resulted in chemical pregnancies. I wish now we would have transferred more. Hope this helps. Best of luck with your next cycle. May I ask what your new protocol is?

    Hi Lynne,

I have done both 3dt and 5dt. I think it boils down to how many failed attempts you have had and what would be worse for you to hear...that it was a BFN or that you were pregnant with triplets? Everyone has their opinions and limitations. I myself have had numerous failed cycles and am done playing it safe in fear of forced selective reduction. I personally would transfer as many as your doctor would allow either at 3 or 5 days. According to my dr the odds of being successful only increase about 10% with each embryo, up to 4 embies, and after that it flatlines. But that's just me. Either way best of luck to you and I am hoping it's a BFP!!!

I have done IVF two toiems, the first was a 3dt and we put back 1, i only had one fertilize, the second IVF was 5dt and we put back 2, md is too scared i will have triplets , im very very small (not a midget or anythign but small) so i think he was covering his ass by only doing two, anyway first IVF was neg and second was BFP but right now im suffering an ectopic. treated with methotrexate, I have heard 5dt have a higher sucess rate so they would normally put back less then on 3dt, but each md is different. good luck

I have done 3 days and 5 days transfers. For my 5 days transfer, IVF/ICSI #1 and #2, my 1st RE had transfer 3 and 4 embies. My 2nd RE did 3 days transfers. In the beginning, he would transfer 6 embies. Since I've failed most of my cycles with either chemical pg or BFN, he recommended transferring 10. Yes, 10 embies which I thought was a lot but I thought he knew what he was doing. When I started to bleed and had lots of pain due to blood clot or whatever it was before my 1st beta, he told me later on that he thought 10 was too much and it was like information overload.

Based on your siggy, I was wondering if you had immune testing done. Immune and blood clot disorder causes implantation failure which causes m/c, BFN and chemical pg. I have immune issues where my body doesn't recognize the embies after my IVF transfers. My body sees the embies as a foreign object and attack it. If you ever decide to read up on immune disorder, there is a Immune Issues board here on FT with lots of pinned info or you can go to the late Dr Beer website at www.repro-med.net.

Good luck to you and I wish you success!!!
