    Cysts question

I belong in the multiple IVF but that thread does not get much traffic
I started Lupron today ( week before projected period start) and went in for ultrasound and they found 3 cysts- measuring form 12 mm- 20 mm..... They said after period starts they will take blood and see if they are " active" or not. This has happened one other time and I had to put off cycling for a month. This is a new RE and his nurse seemed to think that more that likely we would proceed...... What do y'all think??
    Thank you!!

I was delayed due to a cyst. If the cysts are producing estrogen then they are considered active. The way the nurse explained it to me is that if the cyst is active and you start stims, the cyst will "hog" all the stims and it just won't work. I was delayed 2 weeks. My estrogen was 294 at the first baseline with a 25mm cyst. I went back on BCPs and then had another baseline 2 weeks later. Then my E2 was 31 with a 35mm cyst (yep, it got larger). So even though the cyst was still there, it was no longer active and I was able to proceed. By my first monitoring appointment it was gone.

I would wait just because they usually resolve themselves. If they check it now and it is active, they will most likely tell you to wait 2 weeks, check again and then start stims if it is not active then. But if you wait until right before starting, it may be active now but resolved itself by then. Does that make sense?

    My Mood
    Hopeful
    Hi Tense,
I had a 22mm cyst at the time of my baseline appointment. They checked my estrogen level before starting lupron and it came back very low. I was cleared to go ahead and start my medicine. I went back in for an ultrasound a week later and the cyst resolved itself. I think as long as your estrogen level is low then you should be okay.

I did a long lupron cycle in July. My nurse told me the reason why you start taking lupron on CD 21 is because it supresses the natural production of estrogen in your system before the start of your next cycle (IVF cycle). That is what they want. Cysts feed on estrogen so they should decrease in size before you start stimming. When they do your baseline blood test (after the start of your period), it should show a very low level of estrogen in your system because the lupron stopped your natural production. I hope this helps.
