My first post and PLENTY of questions :)

Hi everyone I'm new here, I've been on another board but find no one really answers me that often! Anyways a little back story, I've been married for 6 years and TTC for just as long! Endo has always been expected and was finally removed June 2010. I was told it was stage 1-2 in the Cul-de-sac. Tubes were open and no endo on the ovaries. I also have mild PCOS, with regular periods and no cysts (normally, I have had some recently I attribute to the gonadotropins). I started actual treatment this year and did one IUI with follistim that was unsuccessful. However I did end up with 7 follies and an E2 of 530. I did one more night of stims and then triggered. Not sure what happed but a day or so after trigger I started having intense pain. I could sit up or lay down without pain everytime I moved. It hurt to pee, laugh and cry. It sucked. So after 2 days I had finally had it and was going to go to the ER but decided to call the Dr first just in case it was related to the IUI. They told me to come in and when my RE did the ultrasound she looked at the nurse and said "was this from IUI, not IVF? WOW" Apparently my ovaries were very enlarged and I had a little bit of fluid in my uterus. How did that happen when my E2 was only 530? Could it have jumped dramatically in the 2 days before the IUI?
Anyways now I'm onto IVF and at my first ultrasound after 6 days of stims (this past friday) I had 10 follies. 5 on the left measuring 9-12 and 5 on the right measuring 12-15. And one giant cyst at 27mm. E2 was 962. I was told to continue stims and add ganirelex and then I come back Monday (tomorrow) and probable egg retrieval on Wednesday! How does that ultrasound stack up? Am I in danger of not having enough eggs or OHSS, google has told me both things (sometimes I hate google!)
And finally I'm starting to get sick, either allergies or cold and I can't breathe out of my nose at all (wonderful timing) I'm nervous about Egg retreval. Does it matter if I'm sick? No fever yet just run down feeling with some body aches. But there's time to either get better or get worse

Thanks for all your help! I'm very excited about joining a new board! Thanks for listening and I promise all my posts won't be this long!

Hi cake, the pain that you experienced from the IUI is most likely from ovulation. I too had bad AF-like cramps on the day of IUI, and I had only 4 follicles. My RE told me that was from ovulation.

As for your IVF, your ultrasound looks good. That is a great number of follicles to have on day 6. I had something like that but my E2 was 4000+. You might develop OHSS, but I'm sure your doc will know how to manage it. I ended up with 25 eggs retrieved, my RE put me on OHSS meds and I felt no pain, only constipation after the ER. He also decided to freeze the embryos and do a FET because he didn't want the OHSS to get worse.

    Hi. Welcome to FT.

I don't know a lot about IUI, but it sounds like you had OHSS with it even though your e2 wasn't super high. Like I said though, I don't know much about IUI.

In regard to your IVF cycle, sounds like you are doing well. It's always possible you will have OHSS, but your e2 doesn't seem exceptionally high to me as of now. Your RE will watch it and adjust meds, treatment accordingly. We have cycle groups if you would like to join April's. Just post in the thread and I'll get you added to the list. You can go through this process with other women doing the same. No pressure though.

Anyway, good luck!! I hope this cycle is very successful for you! :

Cake- Welcome Being that you have POCS you are at a higher risk for OHSS. You can get OHSS with IUI/injections. Your IVF cycle seems to be going well, and I agree with BC-Star the doctors will adjust your meds according to your bloodwork and sonos. As for you feeling sick, I hope you feel better soon. I know when I took the Ganirelix it made me feel like I was coming down with the flu, but if I ate every 2 hours the sick feeling went away. Lots of luck with you cycle and come join one of the groups

Thank you all for the responses!! I went to the RE today and had another ultrasound and suppossedly have 10 follies on each ovary now! My right ovary they range from 16.5-21 and my left they range from 14-19! Apparently my left ovary lags a little! Same thing happened during the IUI! If I have 20 eggs how many should I expect to make embryos?!

Rootbeer- Good Luck on your first IVF!! How far into the cycle are you?

Eggfactory- I don't think it was ovulation pains since it started a few days after trigger and lasted about 4-5 days! RE said it was mild over stimulation but only a little bit of fluid mainly it was just my ovaries became super enlarged. She said each ovary was bigger that my bladder! (not sure how big an ovary is in relations to a bladder!) So I took one last dose of Gonal F and Ganirelix today! How many follies were seen before you went to retrieval?!

Stargazer- I asked RE about my E2 today and she said it didn't matter what it came back as because I'm on ganirelix it isn't a reliable number anymore? I really want to add a cycle group and will as soon as I figure out how!

Heart- I'm SOO glad you said that about the ganirelix. I'm stuffed up and sore throat so that I'm pretty sure is allergies, but yesterday I felt SO nauseated I felt for sure like I was going to throw up it was pretty terrible, maybe that was the ganirelix?

Cake: Wow, you are right in the thick of it!! Sorry that you're not feeling well as tomorrow is a big day!! Congratulations on your 10 follies. They're all viable in size and that is something to celebrate. I too had terrible pain and fluid build up after my IUI. Was told that is was unusual but mine too was unsuccessful. I did 4 rounds of IVF and just never produced enough follicles after the first round when they retrieved three. I agree that google can be a viscious learning loop sometimes. These boards are full of qualified, experienced women and we want to support you and inform you if we can.

Whitney1-Thanks for your response! I've started feeling somewhat better as far as the allergies/cold go but I am so extremely bloated and uncomfortable! More follicles showed up on Monday so now I have about 17 between 14-21mm. I triggered last night and have retrieval tomorrow Although now I'm paranoid of ovulating early (they're doing a 38hr retrieval)! The worry never ceases does it? Thanks for everyones help! I'm really loving this board!
