    HPT after IVF

Hi, I am going crazy with doing HPT's after my first ever IVF cycle. I went in for my beta on 9 days post 5-day transfer and it was positive (this was 3 days ago). My doctor said my number was good but I don't know what the exact number was. I have been doing HPT's because I would think that if my numbers are hopefully going up, shouldn't my HPT be giving a more definite positive. My AM tests show nothing and my afternoon tests show nothing or a very faint line that gets darker by the next day. What could this be?

HPT can be tricky. You want to do it with your first morning pee - you should have not gone to the bathroom for at least 4 hours. I found that doing the ones where you pee in a cup and then use a little dropper to drop pee on the test then the tests that you hold in your urine stream. If you have a Dollar Tree near you - go get their tests. They are only a $1.

I would also call your clinic's office on Monday and request what the number is. The key isn't the initial number but the fact that your number doubles every two to three dayas.

    Good luck

I agree with basket. HPTs are notorious for being inconsistent and the results vary widely. I really think your doc should have at least given you a bit more info on your result so as not to keep you completely in the dark about the result! That being said, the number itself really isn't as important as it's doubling time. If the doc says it was good, then his office must consider the value high enough to deem you pregnant! Congrats on the positive!! Here's to a doubling number!!

    dear all

Thanks for your positive words. I hope you're right because I'm going absolutely nuts over here with worry! My next beta is tomorrow (Monday) and I'm hoping to get good news. I don't want to have gone through all of this for it to come to nothing. Cybie, I hope your beta on Tuesday gives you some great news!

I honestly don't know how I'm going to make it until 2 or 3 PM tomorrow (which is when I'll get results of tomorrow's beta). I am a bundle of nerves and I am only getting more anxious by the minute. I wish there wouldn't be such a thing as an HPT!

Hang in there tk87! I am also waiting for the results on a beta hcg test tomorrow. My HPTs have all been negative, but AF has been MIA so we'll see.
    Good luck! :-)

Sadly, me second beta today was 0. So, there was a reason for not getting a definite positive on my HPT's.

Oh, tk87, I was so hoping for a rise in the number!! This must be why the RE didn't tell you the number...he didn't want to worry you with it's level (though this never helps me! I always want to know). My thoughts are with you and I hope you are doing okay! Do you think you will be cycling again?

    Please take care of yourself!!

Thanks for the well wishes Cybie. Unfortunately my levels were less than 2 so I'm not pregnant. AF still hasn't shown up either (it's CD37). Just wish I could figure out what the problem is! The RE nurse guessed that my mature follicles might have shrunk, but she didn't seem confident that that was what happened.
