What exactly does 'daily monitoring' entail?

I am on my first IVF cycle, and started lupron 3 days ago. My protocol calls for follistim and menopur to begin next Thursday, followed by daily monitoring.

Am I going to get a blood test AND ultrasound EVERY day for 10 days? A daily ultrasound is so intrusive! I am not sure exactly what the daily monitoring entails. I understand they need to test me daily to see my body's response to the meds.

I have never been on any prescription medication, ever. I am a little nervous about my chemical-free body's response to all these meds!

If your doctor does things like mine, they'll do blood work in the morning and, based on the results of that BW (which should be back that afternoon), either have you return for an ultrasound the next day, or not. There will be an ultrasound, for sure, but you won't necessarily have one every day...or even every other day.

It's hard to say how your body will respond to the meds, and whether you've ever had prescription meds or not won't necessarily have anything to do with it. There are so many women who have very strong/negative reactions to the meds...but that doesn't happen to everyone. I had very vew side effects to the meds and all were short-lived. I was pretty freaked out before my egg retrieval because I hate the idea of losing control to the anesthesia (I've had gen. anesthesia before), but this anesthesia was very different from that and the whole procedure and process was really pretty benign. So, try to relax as best you can and don't worry too much. In all likelihood, this won't be as bad as you think it will. And always feel free to ask questions of the girls around here...we'll help however we can.

(You might consider checking out the thread Pumpkin Babes 11/1...everyone there is cycling this Fall and you'll find lots of support and good advice.)

I was on the Lupron, Follistem, and Menopur protocol as well. My RE had me come in for the bw and u/s every other day. The sonogram isn't as heavily required because for my 2nd appt, they only did bw and no sonogram. However, it is still important. Wondered why they didn't have that done. Anyway, bw is done at every appt. to check your E2 levels. Pending your E2 levels, your nurse will give you a call to either decrease, increase, or continue with the scheduled dose. I don't think they'll check you daily unless something is off the chart, but during my last stimming day, I was scheduled to see my RE 3 days in a row. It depends on your E2 level because they don't want your numbers to be too high. And sonogram to check to see if you have any cyst developing, count and measure the follies, and the lining of your uterus. Just remember to take the correct dose at the same time. I think you'll be fine. Although, the Menopur stings like a ??!!

i was on 3 meds- lupron, gonal-f, and low dose hcg - for about a week. each appt is bw to see your hormon levels and U/S to see how many follies you have and monitor the thickness of your uterine lining. i went in evey other day and then everyday towards the end depending on your bw and follies. they like to see them grow in groups before you trigger.
don't worry...i know being on all those meds was a little intimidating...good luck!

Thanks ladies! So far, I've had daily bloodwork and one ultrasound on day 3.
