Hi! My DH and I have been ttc for about a year now. I just turned 40, he's 39: I have a good reserve of eggs and good hormone levels; he's got a good supply of sperm with good motility, but *very* low strict morphology.
I'm with Kaiser and took the Repronex class to see if IUI was a possibility and the nurse indicated that since my issue was probably that the sperm weren't fertilizing the egg, that IUI wouldn't be effective. So, given our age and my sweetie's "gentlemanly" sperm (that's what our Ob/Gyn called them), we are thinking of jumping right to IVF despite the cost. Has anyone had this experience, and is it worth trying IUI (I'm disinclined b/c it seems so invasive and, at this point, every cycle counts)? Getting a second opinion? Getting another Kruger test? Also, it seems that Dr. Zouves in Daly city is the man for tough cases. I'd be especially interested to hear if others' in our position have gone to him, and what their experience was. Thanks a million - just glad to have a place to get this all out. All my friends are on their 2nd or 3rd kids and have no way of relating to this.

helen- we did one IUI and he has 5 million sperm and 0% morpholgy!! she told me that when she was actually performing the IUI...i started crying because i really felt we were wasting a month...my RE gaveme the option of doing another IUI, but felt we wold have WAY more of a chance with IVF --she gave me a 5% chance of success with my dh's numbers...we went on to ivf , which worked the first time
![]() the drugs i used was Lupron, Menopur and FOllistim Good luck and feel free to PM me with any questions..

I would DEFINITELY go straight to IVF! We did 4 IUIs and it was a total waste of time. With diminished ovarian reserve, I don't have any time to waste.

Hi Helen! If you were say 25-30, I would say try a few IUIs first. But, given that you are a bit on the clock, I agree to move straight to IVF! Because yes, if there's a fertilization problem, you will be able to bypass that straightaway with ICSI!
Best of luck! |
