More follicles and less eggs retrieved

I have been a silent reader of this forum. Doing my 3rd IVF now. Noticed something that makes me concerned.

During last day of ultrasound we saw about 11 follicles. We came out of retrieval today and only 5 were retreived. Do I need to be worried?

Not all follicles have eggs in them. I always have more follies than eggs. I think it's normal. Good luck to you.

I have read that every follicle has an egg. If they do not "find" one in the follicle more likely than not, the egg was still attached to the follicle. I am not sure why this happens. If you go to www.haveababy.com you can search some posts on this where RE's respond tho these questions. I have seen this question come up a ton of times. Good Luck!

Few people say that it could be because of pre-ovulution. I am wondering if that's the case then my RE would have told me. I searched at "haveababy.com" for various phrases like "fewer eggs more follicles", "eggs attached to follicles" etc., Couldn't find the information that I am looking for.

Anyways thanks for your response. I am still scared. I would rather sleep thru today and learn about my results tomorrow by concentrating on something else. Just wish me luck. Hope 1 of the 5 they got is my future Son or Daughter.

it happened to me once, they had done er too late, and I had practically ovulated, so I ended up with very few eggs too. I did know its going to happen because the 36 hrs were up since trigger and it still wasnt my turn. never did a tx at that clinic again.

Thanks Andhika. Did your RE tell you that Ovulation happened?

In my case I didn't know that ovulation could be a reason till I googled today. So I didn't ask him that question. I persumed that he would have told me that if that was the case. (In my case ER was done exactly after 36 hours and 5 mins)

were your eggs icsi-d or left naturally to do their thing? for natural its pretty good 2 out of 5, for icsi, well I would change RE or ask some serious questions nexttime you see him.
normally as much as I know ER has to be done BEFORE 36hrs is up, at 36 hrs you ovulate, or there is a very high chance of it.
hope the 2 embies go strong, and it will end up being a success none the less!!
