Suggestions on good ivf doctors in the s.f. bay area?

hi everyone,

I am new to the site and love reading all the threads and outpouring of support from everyone. I can totally relate!! I'm 35 years old and have been ttc for the last 3 years. I've had 3 very early miscarriages, had a fibroid removed (myomectomy) as well as laproscopy and hysterscopy.

Anyway, I'm doing my 4th cycle of injections now (last 3 were not successful at all), with IUI planned but am seriously comtemplating ivf and need advice. Does anyone know of a good ivf facility in the san francisco area? Could you please give me the facility name and doctor?

thanks so much!!

-Megan

Hi Cocoa. I'm sorry to hear about all you've gone through! I go to the Reproductive Science Center (RSC) in the East/South Bay and I really like my doctor (Dr. Willman, and also the doctor who did my procedures, Dr. Weckstein-- though I haven't heard anything bad about any of the docs there). Their whole practice seems pretty well organized to me-- which for something as time consuming and involved as IVF is important (I was previously with Kaiser which was a disaster on that front). They also take a variety of insurances (if you're lucky enough to have fertility insurance). The office I go to is in Orinda (east bay), and their main office is in San Ramon (which is where the major procedures are done) and their other offices are in Milpitas and San Jose, I think. Good luck!

Hi Megan.

I'm so sorry for your losses! I go to RSC as well. My RE is Dr. Weckstein and he's great. I go to the San Ramon office. I have worked with some of the other RE's there (Dr. Willman and Dr. Galen) and liked them both as well. They are very organized, you never have to wait long, and the staff is very friendly. They do work as a team so though your main RE may be one RE, you may have another RE for your ER or ET (rare but it happens). They work as a team so that the clinic is open every day and you don't wait around all day for bloodwork, test results, etc. They may not have the highest success rates in the Bay Area. One reason is that they don't turn women away. Some clinics may turn away older women or women with a high FSH. They do have the best FET success in the area!

I have also heard some good things about our board sponsor Zouves.

Good luck!

Hi Megan - I have tried 2 RE's in the bay area. I used to go to FPNC, Doctor Nelson. He was good, but was very slow and conservative in approach and his hospital fell out of my network this year. So I switched to Dr. Milki from Stanford Hospital. He seems fairly smart and aggressive. I have had 2 IUI's with him.
I would recommend Dr.Milki and his stanford fertility group of doctors.
good luck

Thanks everybody for all the suggestions. I'm currently with Kaiser in Fremont and they're okay, (I intend to switch somewhere else when doing ivf) and before that, I was with Palo Alto Medical Foundation. PAMF was a very small practice. I'll definitely check out RSC in the East Bay and UCSF. Is there a waiting list for getting to these places? Since I'm a schoolteacher, I'm thinking of starting my first ivf cycle in december (during winter break) this year.

I also heard about the SHER institute (www.haveababy.com) and pacific facility center. has anyone have any experience with these places?

I am just starting out with Dr. Zouves in Daly City. One of my friends went through 4 ivf's at Stanford before getting pregnant- and then went to Dr. Zouves who did immunization testing and she got pregnant on the first go with him. My accupuncturist teaches at 5 brances school of accupuncture in Santa Cruz and in San Jose- she has an office in San Mateo and is familiar with all the clinics and also says he is in her opinion the best. He has a reputation for doing thourough testing ahead of time, and if he doesn't think he can help you he will make recommendations before starting a cycle- to loose weight- go to accupuncture etc. Good luck in your decision! It sure is a difficult one but I feel happy with choosing him. He looked over all our records and did a free consultation with us on the phone- we had a book of records and he read every word of it ALL. Spent about 45 minutes on the phone with us before we were at all commited to going to him- and we felt completely confident that he would hold our best chance at this point.

Has anyone had any experiences with SHER institute or Pacific Facility Center?

I have heard very good things about Pacific Fertility Center.
A friend of my friend got pregnant with twins at this center.

I would love to explore this, but the distance is too much for me to cover for everyday check ups. Good luck
