Question -- my abdomen is distended and hard. Not just the lower abdomen, either. I know I've got OHSS going on, but do you think that the swelling will go away on its own? Called RE's office this morning and left a message, but I'm freaking out.I want to go to transfer on Monday. I don't want to be told I have to wait it out. Has anybody had experience with this?

Distended Abdomen and OHSS?

It is really hard to say...we all get some bloating, but yours sounds like more than that. I would definitely try to get in to see your RE so you can help you.
Are you drinking tons of gatorade, getting lots of salt, and lots of protein.
How much weight have you gained each day, and you should prly start measuring your stomach everyday too..
I hope you can go to transfer!! Take Care!!

Kristen,
I had OHSS with my last IVF. I think it was 2days after ER that I started feeling awful. My tummy was getting big and hard and uncomfortable. Then I started having shooting pains up to my shoulder, especially when I layed down. I went in for an u/s and was told it was moderate OHSS. The RE who did the u/s said he would freeze all if he was my RE. On day 3 after ER my RE said he would procede, but since I was so uncomfortable (I had to try and sleep sitting up because the pain was so bad when I was flat), he thought it was best to wait. I really didn't want things to get worse.
So we froze all on day 3 and did a blast FET the next month.
It was so disappointing to have to wait. But I think we made the best decision in waiting. I wasn't back to normal for 2.5 weeks and if I had gotten pg on the fresh transfer it would have been so much worse.
Good luck! Drink lots and lots of water and Gatorade and my RE said to eat as much chicken soup as you can handle.

Thanks for the responses, girls. I have a ton of trouble sleeping too, Tara.
I talked to the RE's nurse, and since I am feeling a bit better today, she said to just keep staying off of my feet, drinking lots, etc. As of now, my transfer is scheduled for Monday. How many did you have to freeze when you waited? I think that if I keep feeling better, I'll go for it on Monday.

warning: children ment.
Kristen,
That's great that you are feeling a bit better. Hopefully you will feel even better Monday.
We had 16 embryos to freeze on day 3. The next month we thawed 7 and took them to blast. We only had 2 make it to transfer. But they resulted in our b/g twins.
Even though I was very disappointed to have to put off transfer for a month, I was okay with doing a FET because I had prior success with a FET and a BFN with my fresh transfer.
Good luck!

I hope that everything settles down for you & that you can proceed with your transfer on Monday!

Just make sure to be honest with your RE about your symptoms that day because when you get pg, your OHSS will get worse. You don't want to end up in the hospital!! My friend had very severe OHSS & was in the hospital for 7 days! She had gallons of fluid drained from her belly over the course of her hospital stay. She did go on to have a very healthy pg & her DS is now 4 1/2, but still.....she was mighty miserable in the hospital!
Good luck sweetie!!

Thanks for the comments and well wishes, girls. I've been just resting up for a couple of days, and the pain has subsided quite a bit. We transferred two blasts today. I know that it could get worse before it gets better, but I'm just trying to do all the right things and hope for the best!
