rookie question from a 'vet,' lol!

What exactly is a BETA? I obviously know it is some hormone level and it need to steadily increase at a doubling rate, which shows preganancy. But what IS it exactly? I have avoided looking into this b/c I tend to go into hyper-protective mode once a 2ww starts, lol. I guess since I go in tomorrow for another beta test, I ought to toughen up and actually look at it squarely.....

A beta test measures the level of HCG in your blood. HCG is produced by an embryo after implantation. It is the first real indicator of a pregnancy, and that is why HPTs and beta tests use it to detect early pregnancy. HCG levels increse fairly consistently during the first several weeks of pregnancy, although there can be a prettu big range of "normal" depending on a lot of factors.

To learn more about normal beta numbers, ranges for singles and multiples, and the doubling time calculator, check out this website:http://www.betabase.info/. Good luck during your 2WW and I hope your betas give you great news!
