I am 9 DPO and negative HPT - some facts for all...

Hello. Seems most only post in cycle groups - but I thought this information may help some HPT obsessed people like me:

At 9 days past ovulation/retrival the average HCG level is 15 - 30, this WOULD show up, since my last chemical was only a 16 and gave me a clear second line on FRED...so the fact that I am negative actually is a not so good sign...(although I did get my chemical + on day 11 last time)

Less than 5 DPO 1-2 mIU - HPT
    5 DPO 2-5 mIU
    6 DPO 4-10 mIU
    7 DPO 8-20 mIU
    8 DPO 10-25 mIU
    9 DPO 15-30 mIU
    10 DPO 20-50 mIU
    12 DPO 40-100 mIU
    16 DPO 200-400 mIU
    20 DPO 220-800 mIU

As you can see by around 8 to 10 days your HCG level will be in the 25-50 mIU range. It is during this time frame that most women can receive their first accurate result.

As you can see, I am HPT obsessed! Also First Response Early Result Pregnancy Test, known as a FRED, this test is extremely sensistive and reputed for it's reliability. This product is advertised as delievering an accurate result up to 5 days before your period, and it does in fact do so for many women. SET AT 15 HCG - that is the lowest out there!

My beta was this morning. As I tested negative on every HPT made, I went in feeling disheartened. My beta was 94--well above the minimum on FRED. Hope this makes you feel better.

I had been taking HPTs all week (I even posted this in another thread titled "I know I shouldn't have, but...". All were negative. I bought all of these tests with the lowest specificity possible (FRED, Simplicity, Answer...). I was distraught. I stopped testing on Saturday because my beta was on Sunday. I had absolutely no pregnancy symptoms and couldn't stop crying for days because I just knew it was unsuccessful. So when I went for my beta I sorta resolved myself that it was going to be negative. Also, I had only one embryo implanted (3dt), because the others didn't fertilize, so my chances of success were already limited. When the nurse called me and told me my number was 94 I almost passed out.

My best friend who conceived naturally also had a similar experience with HPTs. She was 3 weeks late for her period and was still getting negatives. Her blood beta was in the thousands. My doctor told me that some people metabolize HCG differently and it never actually registers on a HPT.

Hope this gives you hope! I go for my 2nd beta on Wed...

    Much luck to you!

I just wanted to comment too....

I have seen several cases where an HPT came back negative on the same day as a positive beta. This positive beta being well over the 'standard' HCG levels for the given HPT. I think they have to have these standard levels referenced, but I do not think they are really that true.

    Good Luck!!

Ok - so you are right that some people don't metabolize the HCG and don't get the positive HPT at days 10 - 12 like most do....

However for me, I have had ++ on day 11 3 times (even if ended in chemical) - so I know my body responds to the hormone...so for people like me - a negative is a negative.

congrats on your story - WOW one embryo and BFP!!!! I just had 6 all over 8 cells put in me and I am convienced, today at day 10 - it is over.

I didn't get a pos HPT until the day of my beta...and my beta was 87. I wouldn't give up hope yet!
