Cycle #2 Questions to ask RE? & Things I should know or learn from my last cycle.

I just failed my first IVF cycle. I need questions to ask my RE & information that only you ladies would know.

I have heard of immune issues- don't they test for that automatically or do you have to request it?

Are women that don't get any type of pregnancy more prone to having longer cycles???or more irregular periods? ( I would have less than 6 a year if I wasn't medicating)

I got a UTI so I was put on Cipro. Would that be a problem?

How much PIO are most people on???

Here are my med stats: I turn 30 this week. So these are my stats as a 29 yr old: Had 23 retrieved 15 fertilized, transfered a 9 and 10 cell 3 day- Grade 2 (my clinic uses 1 for best) I was on gonal F only. None of the embies fell into Grade 1. I have 1 Frozen (6 day) blast the rest of the embies arrested at 6 cell or 8 cell phase and never moved on.

I had no spotting and twingy cramps around day 6dpo and real cramps 11dpo. 11dpo-hpt, 12dpo-hpt, 13dpo-hpt.

Isla, here are some questions I would ask.

1. Ask for your case to be taken to Board Review. That is when all the doctors are there to review patients and it might be good to have everyone looking at you chart.
2. See if your clinic will order immune testing. You might need to add another drug to your protocol. Both Randr and I have discovered that. My clinic won't do the test so my regular doctor did them and I gave the clinic my results.
3. Get a copy of your records and then set up a consult with another clinic. Do this to get their opinion but it also will make you realize if your clinic is the right choice or not. I did this and stayed with my clinic. But it was valuerable information I received.
4. Ask the questions as to what can be done differently to make you get preg?
5. Can you transfer more than 2 embies?

Please let us know what you find out. Also, if you need anything researched let us know as you know a lot of us have a ton of information.
Major Hugs
Dawn

Isabelle & Dawn,

You guys are so great! Thanks for asking about me. I didn't want to post more of my not so pleasentries on the SSS board. SO for reference I'll stick them here.

I just realized that yesterday.. the rose colored glasses came off and I am seeing things in a different light. First the conversation was you have great eggs.. then it was maybe next cycle we can have better eggs to work with.. I heard they retrieved 29 eggs.. then 23.. then 15 fertilized... 17 fertilized... They use a worksheet for EVERYTHING in the office why not one the nurse, embryologist, and RE can directly give an answer from? New concept?

From all of this come to find out... my fertilization rate was way higher... only 20, or so, eggs were mature. But I only had 5 decent embryos to work with. Whole freaking different story. 2 were transfered and 1 made it to blast.

Is this the story they tell you after they realize the cycle failed so that they "have" something to work with??? So now I realize they can't count the amount of eggs in a dish.. so all those sonnos we freak out about are really just an estimate anyway.

He did tell us about a research project, that he is heading, and the rate for Pregnancy is the same w/ IVF in 50,000 cycles for fresh cycles 1,2,3 so if #1 doesn't work it is just a numbers game from there. I believe that was the warm fuzzy part I was suppose to walk away with...

OH FYI the clinic has a bell shaped curve for pregnancy rates and the highest rates are at 34-35. Which I find, interresting, but also a little screwy... ( just for my two research queens)

I heard on the radio today that people were planning weddings today because it is 777. They were having people call in and say what special thing they were doing today. I think you guys are doing the most special thing ever. There are going to be lots of embies and you are both pregnant in a dish today! I know you are both going to be pleasently surprised. Dawn if you have 3 great eggs you are golden and Isabelle you could probably go into embryo donation after this cycle.

Love to you ladies, I am looking forward to your fert reports.
