    HPT's - How reliable?

I had 2 blasts transferred on day 6. My beta is scheduled for 2/9. I am 10dpt today. I've taken several hpt's and they are all negative. I don't have any symptoms at all - none of pg or AF coming. Anyone else tested, got a neg hpt and a positive beta?

    Thanks,
    Jen

I'm NOT a fan of hpt's at all. Over the years that I've been here, I've seen too many be false, both positive AND negative. I've seen ladies get negative hpt's the morning of their beta, but their beta's came back well into the 200's!! One lady was pg with twins, the other with triplets & they got negative hpt's the morning of their beta's!

Some people believe in them, others don't. The thing is that when you're doing IF tx, you just can't rely on them. It's not the same as someone who's not doing IF & testing because they might be late.

It's not over unless the beta says so. Hang in there & keep your chin up!! I'll be watching for your beta on Friday!

Thanks so much Karen! That is very encouraging. To tell you the truth I was just ready to give up after seeing the first negative. It's a disappointment and you don't really know if it is true or not. If for some reason the beta does turn out to be negative on Friday, I honestly doubt I'll use those things again!! Thanks for the good luck wishes too!! I'll let e-one know on Friday!

10dpt is a little early yet anyway. Many ladies don't get + until 12 or 13dpt.

    Don't give up hope.

HPT's aren't great for picking up hormone levels this early...good luck for your beta

Not with IVF but the one natural baby I had - my progesterone was 50 (huge number)and hpt's were still coming back negative which crushed me and perplexed my Dr. so I partied at my dh's 10 year reunion, had a motorcycle accident, and took a four hour hike only to get a + hpt the next week......... My opinion - negative responses are not so reliable but positive results do mean a pregnancy - now if you're pregnant in the right spot or not is another thing.

Anomaly -My dx is tubal. I had an ectopic in May 2006 and both tubes were surgically removed b/c the other had a hydro. At that time, I didn't do a hpt until I was about 6 weeks but I also had no symptoms of preg either. I'm still hoping it is positive - only 3 more days and I'll know for sure. The lovely tww!

    Thanks,
    Jen
