PIO Leaves Giant Red Itchy Welts?

It's been a couple weeks since I quit the PIO yet these welts keep getting bigger, redder, and itchier!

The weird thing is that there were no marks at all (other than minor bruising) when I actually took the shots, but once I quit, the welts cropped up.

The other question is - how can I make them go away? DH has to yell at me constantly for scratching my hips.

Crystal

My injection sites were itchy and sore for a number of months after I quit the shots. They only itched for a little while, but were sore for a couple months. Not unbearable, but annoying.. So I don't think it's uncommon. I don't know of anything you can do except wait it out... Hope you feel better!

I remember it taking quite awhile for my cheeks to be normal again. Benedryl liquid helps and does a compress of a cold milk washcloth (sounds strange but was told that by a dermatologist for hives and it really helps)

Same thing happened to me for a few weeks after I stopped PIO. I washed (scrubbed them with a washcloth) in the shower and then put some Cortisone on them and they went away.

If they don't go away tell your RE and maybe she would look at them.

Girls i thought it was only me. I stoped the shots ON the 14th. My Bu**is so itchy and red I can't stand it and it gets worse at night. I was putting cleam on it and it gets better during the day but at night i itch and I itch. I hope it gets better soon, because I cannot see myself wearing pants.

Hi,
I just wanted to butt in and say benadryl and hydocortisone really does help, if the topical one is not working try the oral benadryl. My butt started getting really itchy, bumpy, rashy and tingly about a week after my pio. I ended up using topical benadryl and hydrocortisone which helped although it still took another 2 weeks to clear up. Next time I would suggest getting your pio in another oil base. I had sesame oil but am switching to olive oil or peanut oil next time.

Gina,
LOL....you are such a girly girl.

hey itchy girls, just kidding. you could try Aveeno oatmeal baths. They really help and Benedryl has a clear topical gel that works great as well. Hope this helps

I didn't get huge red welts, but the itching.....ugh!!!! It drove me batty!!!

Try some Hydrocortizone cream- that usually helps itchy spots.

I stopped PIO in June and had welts for a couple of weeks. I still have residual soreness back there. I had PIO in sesame oil and RE switched to cottonseed oil for this next IVF.
Thanks for bringing this up! I thought I was going crazy.
I hope the welts go away soon.

I had the same problem. It lasted until about 5 weeks after I discontinued the PIO injections. My RE was not concerned. Itchy, swollen ick! Hated PIO.
