Any one from Michigan???

We are from Wisconsin but my RE is in Grand Rapids MI so we are here all week for ER & ET. I was wondering if anyone knew anything fun to do while we are here??? We spent a couple hours at the zoo today now just 6 more days to fill.

I'm in MI, but I'm about 2 hours from Grand Rapids, so I don't know of anything fun to do there. I know that there are a few other gals here from MI. Only 1 that I know of is from around there- I think. I know she saw Dodds too.

If you were down in Southeastern MI, I could help ya out!! \

Good luck!

Karen

I'm about an hour, hour & a half from the OH border, depending on traffic/construction. I saw Dodds & Young last summer & fall when I was a GS. They've got one of the best stats in the state. My RE has the best stats for people younger than 35 & Dodds/Young have the best stats for those over 35, but the difference between the 2 clinics stats are just a few percentage points.

Ahh....so you haven't met Dr. Young yet, eh?! He's a bit of a cutie! When I first met him, I was REALLY wishing that he wasn't coming in to the room to go where he was going! I told my IM that was nicknaming him "Dr. Smilie", because he has a smile that could easily be on one of those Orbits gum commercials! Do you know which one I'm talking about? The one where the person smiles & a white light gleams off of their teeth?!

Good luck tomorrow!

Karen

Post grand rapids

I'm in Cincinnati, oh about 6-7 hours (if I remember correctly) from Grand Rapids, but DH was born & raised in GR. Most of his family is still there so we've vacationed there 4 of the last 6 years. You said you already checked out the Zoo, so we won't mention it. How about the Meijer Gardens? Reputed to be one of the very best public gardens in the Midwest. Name for & funded by Frederik Meijer (of the Meijer grocery chain) as this is where it all started. Visit their website at: http://www.meijergardens.org/ . There are a bunch of neat old buildings downtown, including the Amway Grand Hotel as Amway has its HQ there. There's also the Gerald Ford museum. Grand Rapids Public LIbrary (http://www.grapids.lib.mi.us/) is said to be one of the best research libraries in the country as well. Might be a good time to check it out & start that family history research. It's located in a historic area of downtown, I think in part of one of the old railroad stations. You're only about 1 or 1-1/2 hrs from beach at Grand Haven which has a nice beach & litehouse, maybe 2 hrs from Muskegon which has ferry service to Wisconsin I think. Kind of cool to watch the boats.

Hard for me to think of others now as we spent most of our time visiting family & just driving around to see how things have changed over the years, & we also spent our time just watching the trains go by.

You might want to check out the following websites as well:
Grand Rapids Parks & Recreation: http://grand-rapids.mi.us/index.pl?page_id=463

Michigan: http://www.michigan.org/travel/locations/?m=0, select grand rapids as your location

Or do a google search for "Grand Rapids, MI" which will give you some great sites to check out. The Michigan.org site for Grand Rapids has links to restaurants, attractions, museums, etc so this may be the most help to you.

Hope your stay in Grand Rapids is a positive experience, in more ways than one.

PAM

Hi there! I live near East Lansing so I'm not much help w/ things to do in Grand Rapids....but all of my family lives off Lake Michigan and South Haven/Holland/Saugatuck (very cute little lake city) is only about 45 minutes from you....the beaches are beautiful and it might be fun to relax, do some shopping and find a nice restaurant. I went to the same clinic you're going to and LOVE them! You and Karen are too funny! Dr. Young was my primary dr. but lots of times Dr. Dodds did u/s or even a transfer...they're both great! I hope you'll be taking home some nice memories of Michigan and a baby to boot! ~ Emma
