Different Labs for BETA (preg ment)

Well as you all know I got a positive beta of 40 2 days ago. (8dp6dt) Today exactly 48 hours later I had it reapeated but at a different lab, it was 45. I am just wondering if the same number would come up within a few points range at different labs?? Do you think being tested at 2 separate labs matter or does it make no difference? Any thing you might have would be great. Thanks

Katie- I would not think that the labs would make any difference. It is a general test so regardless of the lab the numbers should be right. I wish you the best.

Katie,

I don't know. I don't want to give you false hope but when I got my progesterone checked, my RE specified that I needed to use the same lab so they knew the results were comparable. I don't know why they would vary or if it is the same situation for betas. I am thinking positive thoughts for you. Have you talked to your RE's office about the numbers?

Yes, it CAN make a difference. You really need to have those levels tested by the same lab because each lab has their own variances & levels can change from place to place. Seems like it wouldn't but it can/does. I used to work in an OB/GYN office & we had 3 labs that we used & all 3 of them had different ranges for the same exact tests!! For example, with beta's, one lab said that anything over 2 was positive; another lab said anything over 5 was positive & the other lab said anything over 10 was positive!!

Is there a reason that your beta's weren't drawn by the same lab? You need to have it redone by the place that did your 1st beta to get a reliable comparison.

Hang in there. Let us know how the next beta comes in, but make sure to have it drawn by the same place. At the very least, have the next one drawn by the same lab that did your 2nd beta.

Karen
