    Quick question

Anyone break out from PIO after stopping injections? I have little itchy bumps around my injection sites from the PIO. I tried to call RE's office but they are closed since today is Good Friday. Do you think this is something to worry about? I have been using hydrocortisone creme for right now. Should I go to the ER? It is not real bad, but I am kinda worried.

    Thanks in advance!

Hi Carla. I had a similar reaction (about a month into the injections...oddly enough). I called the nurse at the clinic. She had me stop the injections and overnighted suppositories to me (in the meantime, she told me to use hydrocortisone cream and take Benadryl). It didn't seem like an emergency situation, but definitely one to address. Good luck.

Unfortunately, this can be a common thing but it's nothing to worry about. If the problem got worse, or you had other symptoms show up, then I'd perhaps call them, but otherwise, just keep using the hydrocortizone cream & give them a call Monday morning to let them know. My tush was itchy around the injection site off & on but all was just fine!

I had the same thing happen to me with my second round of IVF. I had no reaction the first round with the progesterone shots. Here's what's interesting....I went through vial after vial the 2nd round (because I actually got pregnant) and the reaction happened suddenly when I opened a new vial. I immediately called the compounding pharmacy where they make the progesterone and was told I probably had a bad batch. The pharmacist told me that he thinks the vials themselves are what's causing the reaction. I forgot now exactly what he said was the reason, but he said that the national supplier of the vials for the progesterone had started using a new "sterilization" process and since then the pharmacy had experienced a huge increase in complaints regarding a reaction. He told me to return the vial that was causing the problem and he would exchange it for a different vial. The next vial caused me no problem.....but a few weeks later....the same thing happened with another vial. It was very frustrating. So if any one you ladies haven't had a problem with the progesterone and then suddenly develop a reaction while taking the shots, consider switching the vial and possibly even switching the oil that the progesterone comes in. There is the theory that some women also can develop an allergic reaction to some of the oil over time. Sesame oil is supposed to be the most viscose (thin liquid) and the oil that causes the fewest allergic reactions, but you never know. Progesterone can be formulated in peanut oil and some other oils as well. And yes, Benadryl tabs really do help reduce the itching!!

    Thanks Ruth!

I did not have any problems when I first started the injections. I am starting to wonder if it was that last vial. It has been about 2 weeks since my last injection and I just started itching the other day. Thanks for the advice! I plan on talking with the nurse about it on Mon. Have a good weekend!
