What are the success rates are your IVF clinic?
Hello everyone!!
I am about to embark on my first IVF cycle. I'm a little excited. I'm a little nervous, and I'm VERY scared. Both of my tubes are blocked, so there is no chance of pregnancy unless it's through IVF. I was just wondering what the success rates are at your IVF clinic. Here are the one's at mine: Rates are based on Embryo Transfers Clinical Pregnancy <35 = 68% 35 - 37 = 52.9% 38 - 40 = 70% 41+ = 25% Donor egg = 62.5% Delivered/Ongoing Pregnancies: < 35 = 60.9% 35 - 37 = 41.2% 38 - 40 = 50% 41+ = 8.3% Donor egg = 62.5% This is a 2002-2003 statistic. The last round of IVF at my clinic was 80%!!! Holy Moly! My RE said that it eventually levels out, but I thought that was really high even if it was just one given cycle. I think there were 35 woman and 28 became pregnant. It was very early in their pregnancies, so I don't know if there were any early losses. Can't wait to get to know all of you! Abrielle

Percentages for Live Births
<35= 39.7 (388 cycles) 35-37= 30.9 (175 cycles) 38-40= 21.3 (188 cycles) 41-42= 21.2 (52 cycles) DE= 48.0 (123 transfers, all ages combined) Where did you get your stats from? Here's a link to the CDC's web site for stats on clinics. The stats also vary depending on which category you look at (cycles resulting in live births, retrievals resulting in live births, etc.). Another thing is that the stats don't show you whether or not an RE only takes certain cases, which would boost his/her success rates. It's always interesting to look at the different stats. Hopefully they'll have the 2003 CDC stats out soon!! ![]() BTW, welcome aboard!!! ![]() Karen

Hi, Karen!
I got my statistics from my clinic's website. The reason they seem so high is because they did not have a large sample size (e.g. the 38-40 sample was very low, which defiantely alters the statistic). I looked on the CDC website and you can see how small the sample size was. Altogether, though, they had 147 cycles starts, 135 retreivals, 133 transfers and 67 delivered and ongoing pregnancies, which gives and overall success rate of 50%, if you're only counting the embroys that made it to transfer. In 2002-2003, the total cycles starts were 147, and last road they did 138. So this will definately effect their stats next year. |

Abrielle,
Good luck with your cycle! I remember being scared too when we started, but it's really not that bad. Even retrieval was easy -- that was the part I was terrified of. I wasn't even completely out, but had some great narcotics! When you get the fertilization report and see your embryos on screen before transfer, it makes it all worth it! Jen (34) DH (36) 2 embryos transferred 3/22 Beta 4/4 My results are waiting on my home answering machine right now!!!!!! Waiting for DH to listen with me!!!!! |
