Have your meds ever not arrived in time?

Hi all,

I'm in the midst of my first IVF and my doctor has me on Bravelle, which I'm finding isn't being used as much by others. So, I waited until my u/s and E2 levels were done on Thursday, my clinic left a message regarding my med dose and I knew we'd run out this weekend so of course Friday morning I ordered and they were to be Fed. Ex'd here overnight and should have been delivered Saturday between 8 and 3. Nothing came. We called, got the tracking number from Freedom Drug and learned that our meds were in Memphis and the plane wouldn't be taking off until Monday morning due to weather conditions. We looked online and the weather looked clear in TN, so we don't understand why they wouldn't have gotten that plane off the ground ASAP. I hate to admit it, but I got pretty upset at the CSR who we spoke to from Fed Ex and just told her she had no idea what was riding on this. We live in WI and my husband was all set to drive to Memphis to get them, but the Fed. Ex rep. told him he wouldn't be able to get to them anyway. So, I frantically called my nurse - thank God she gave me her home and cell numbers (she's an awesome nurse, support, and now friend) and she said to see if the clinic where I'm actually doing the IVF would allow Follistim as an acceptable substitute. She knew there wasn't any Bravelle available locally since she got some from us for another patient from another clinic who ran out last week. The nurse I spoke to at my IVF clinic said it would be fine and that it really is all the same stuff - FSH - and that this has happened before and it was no big deal. Well, to me it was/is. Anyhow, we met my clinic's nurse at the clinic at 7 PM Sat. night to get the follistim and to learn how to use the pen (which is so slick BTW! My dh loves it!).

Today we learned from some friends of my dh's brother who just had twins recently via IVF, that friends of hers had this same thing happen to them a year or two ago and they actually skipped a day of meds and then switched to Follistim from Bravelle and 9 months later had a healthy girl, so at least now I know there's still hope. I was totally ready to toss in the towel yesterday and figured that switching meds would mess things up.

Anyone else here have a situation like this ever? I hope not, and I hope no one will, but if you do ever run into a situation where you don't have meds. perhaps knowing the cycle can still be successful will keep you somewhat calm. I was blubbering so badly that I couldn't even speak to my nurse on the phone when she called us back - my dh took care of explaining everything to her. All I could think of was all the money and stress and effort we went through and that it would all be lost. I'm happy to say that was not true. I still am worried a bit, but I have much more hope than I did yesterday at this time.

We still have some issues to resolve though, since now we'll have meds being delivered tomorrow that we may no longer need and what am I going to do with 20 vials of Bravelle? I know if this cycle is not successful we can use them on our next cycle. Plus we had to pay for those, plus we'll be paying for the Follistim we got over the weekend. Freedom Drug got the meds sent out, it's really Fed. Ex. who dropped the ball here, but the CSR said weather conditions are out of their control. I understand that, but as I said we didn't see any poor weather in Memphis online yesterday and why wouldn't they get the packages delivered ASAP when things are clear? Our meds have been sitting on a downed plane all weekend long and won't fly out until tomorrow! So much for "guaranteed overnight delivery!" Now, there may be some circumstances which we have not been made aware of regarding this, but still - this isn't right. Ugh ... it's been a stressful weekend.

Anyhow, just wondering if anyone else has been in this situation. We are just lucky my clinic in town had some emergency meds or we would not have had any meds for today or for tomorrow morning. I'm greatful we at least had something to switch to.

I told my dh if this cycle works it will truly be a miracle .... I hope I can share our miracle soon! Our retrieval will be sometime this week .. I'm guessing Wed. or Thurs.

Sending +++++++++++ thoughts to everyone!

Best wishes ladies!

Hi Jenny! No, I've never had that happen before - I would be a wreck!! But yep, I think that Bravelle, Follistim, and Gonal-F are all interchangeable. All 3 are pure FSH. No sweat.

Hi Jenny,
I almost was in your situation due to the changes in insurance and pharm benefit management companies this week. Express Script sucks! They didn't fill all of my original script and didn't tell anyone because they have an internal owned pharmacy that they want you to get refills from yet there was no mention of it in any literature. i was told I had to order from the internal pharm who said it could take up to a week to get my meds. i was livid and the nurse did her best but like yours was ready to lend me some. after an agonizing day and half I finally got the rep to send me overnight and waive the usual time. When I finish my cycle and can be calm will write to E-Script and tell them they suck. bottom line i did finally get my meds but it was stressful.

Good luck to you and keep us posted. My ER is Wed 3/2.

Prayers for you and me and everyone else....
