Retrieval Saturday......
Going to trigger myself in about 45 minutes and then going for retrieval on Saturday at 0730. Oh and guess what.... my 3 eggies now became 2-3 eggies....wasssup widat? I am tired of beating myself up about it so I said here God it's in your hands now...
couple of quickie questions: 1. Is there anything I should expect (feelings wise) pre and post retrieval/ with the trigger shot, ie. cramping, bloating, twinges?... 2. OH and on the sperm collection, get THIS...we live 45 minutes away and my RE said DH can do collection at home and then bring to the clinic..he said it didnt matter about time....could it be because we are doing ICSI??? I am a bit concerned about it but he wasn't (the RE). ANy thoughts?..... I am hoping and praying for a good retrieval. God Bless Dawn

Hi Dawn
Good luck with the trigger shot. ![]() I had my first IVF last November (also with ICSI) I triggered on a Saturday evening and remember feeling very bloated the whole of Sunday. My advice to you is to not do anything too strenuous on Friday. Relax, watch a movie, read - that's what I did. In fact, I stayed indoors the entire day before retrieval! By Monday morning I was a bit sore in my pelvic region, due to the fact that my ovaries were working overtime. I believe that it's natural to feel this way, though. I was fine after retrieval, apart from the nausea caused by the anaesthetic. I'm sorry I cannot help you with your second question re. the semen sample. Our clinic is 5 minutes away, but hopefully someone else can help on that matter. Good luck, and like you said, It's in God's hands. Take care Anira

Just ask AmyLeigh about the sperm sample. She puts it in a sock and then places it between her boobs to keep it warm.
For explanation and more info - see a post on the skinny about sperm collection...

Hi there and welcome!
I have no answer about the sperm collecting. We live like 1.25 hours away from our clinic, so dh actually goes with me when wew need a sample. We did do ICSI though The HCG shot was no big deal, especially with some ice. I did feel bloated and achy the day after my shot (day b4 retrieval), but I don't know if it was the shot or my ovaries. My retrieval was yesterday and it went great. Our office has the anaestisialogist (sp?) give us nausea meds with every retrieval. The nurse couldn't believe how well I felt after the retrieval. I woke right up, used no pain meds or anything. I was achy, but didn't feel bloated anymore, which is good. As the day wore on yesterday, I started feeling more crampy, so I just took it easy. I woke up this morning feeling normal. Good Luck! Julie

Hi Dawn.... ++++ thoughts, ++++ thoughts !!!
With the trigger, you probably won't feel a thing Pre-Retrieval.. I never did. Post Retrieval... for me, I had slight cramping/pangs in ovary area, didn't last but a few hours and I was fine for a dinner out with DH.And about collecting the sperm at home... DH and I have done this SEVERAL times.... collected it at home, I threw the SPERM JAR (LOL w/Stacie!!) into a wool sock, stuck it between my boobs and drove almost the 1 hr drive to our RE's office.... and his spermies were just fine for fertilization. I would not worry about this !! Just make sure to keep the sperm jar somewhere warm. Take some deep breaths honey.... try to center and focus your thoughts into those 2-3 follies you have... they are trying so hard for you and need you to try for them too... do not give up on them !!! xoxoooox

Good luck for Saturday!!!
We've always had the collection done at the office, not at home, so I'm a fan of just doing it there & giving them the freshest possible sample!![]() Karen

Dawn, I can't believe you're triggering yourself!! Good for you.!!
For me after the trigger shot, I had bloating, and could feel my ovaries working to get the follies ripe. After retrieval, I was in a lot of pain, but it was better after I sat in bed with my legs bent watching t.v. The sperm retrieval from home is fine, if like Amyleigh you keep it warm. I was never as inventive as Amyleigh though, I usually put it back in the paper bag, and drove with it between my thighs and when not driving had it in between my clothes and belly. After an hour drive, they were always fine upon arrival. I wish though now, I would have thought about the boob thing, and wool sock, but now that I think about it was it, Amyleigh who came up with that idea you or DH? |

Uh, that would be me
He just did it, then handed the thing off to me to take care of from there.... I think he was going to be late for work or something... LOL !! Definately don't over heat it.... keep it warm like body temperature warm..
