    Question Question about Gonal-f pen...

Last night was my first dose the the pen. Previously I had used the multidose with syringes. Anyway, I thought the pen hurt MUCH more. Did I do something wrong? I grabbed my stomach fat and put it in at a 90 degree angle like I did with the multidose. Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance,
    Jackie

hmmm...I'm thinking maybe you hit a little nerve or something. OR, perhaps it's from being a bit awkward to both hold the pen AND push the plunger while it's in. I thought it hurt a tad worse than the regular syringes, but not a huge difference more....after your shot tonight, post again if it hurt just as bad...oh yeah, did you let the alcohol dry completely before injecting? I found it stung if I didn't let the alcohol dry completely first...

I don't think I did let the alcohol dry. I'll try that tonight.

It is totally awkward! They gave us an info sheet on it and it looks like the person just stabs themself with it. No pinching of skin or anything. I would think that would really hurt! Maybe I'll try my leg, but I've never done a shot anywhere by my stomach. I was told it hurts more there, so I haven't even considered it.

No one else knows anything about this? Is it that you all don't use the pens or don't have anything to compare it to? Just curious.

My tummy hurt when the needle went in and even the meds seemed to sting a bit (maybe that's not letting the alcohol dry, though). I also got a bit of a welt from it. I feel like such a baby complaining about it, but was really hoping I was just doing something wrong I guess not!

Let's just pray that this is the LAST week I'll ever need this!!

My Dh had to do all of my shots I could not do it. I was on follistim and I had the pen, I know they say it is like the med your using. I always got a bruise and it got a little irrated with that one. Once you do the shot don't touch it at all. The pen should have a 27-29 gauge needle right? Mine was a 29 so I felt nothing going in until he dispensed it in me. After I got used to it it was a breeze. Like I said my Dh did all of my shots I could not bear to look.

    Jackie...
I did notice that it stung going in so I'll agree with that. You know...I think the needle is a bit longer so maybe that's why it hurts more? Come to think of it....I did notice it hurt as well which is odd because it's a thinner needle than on the multidose.

I don't use the pen. My DH gives me my gonal-f in the back of my arm which doesn't hurt that much. Sorry I can't help.

The length of the needles is scary long Do you think it needs to be pushed all the way in? I would "think" as long as the tip is in there good (i.e. no way for the meds to drip out), I should be fine. You think?
