2 IUI and my RE wants IVF next. Should I get a second opinion ?

So here is my history. I had robotic myomectomy last year and so far we have try
    October TTC naturally
    November with Letrozole without IUI
December first IUI with Clomid 100 mg, 2 mature follicles, BFN
January IUI with 150 mg Clomid, canceled due to 6 mature follicles
February/ March try on our own unsuccessful
April 2nd IUI with Clomid 150 mg 4 mature follicles. RE almost canceled but we decided to proceed but BFN. My RE usually had me trigger the night before IUI and not sure if that is the usual protocol. Dont you have to wait 24 -36 hrs for IUI?. Now my RE wants me to go ahead with IVF but I am not sure and I need advise!

    Hi Mar,

Typically you will ovulate between 24 and 36 hours after the trigger shot. It is better to have the sperm in place waiting for the egg, so they did your IUI before you ovulated. Sperm survive longer (72 hours) than eggs (48 hours).

Your RE probably wants to move on to IVF, because your last cycle with 4 mature follicles resulted in a BFN. With IVF, it is a better controlled cycle and they can do ICSI if needed. I see where your doctor is going and I agree with it (though I am not a doctor!)

Please make sure you ask lots of questions, so you understand everything and make an informed decision.

    Good luck to you!

Welcome to the board!! You'll find loads of support and advice from all the wonderful ladies here I've noticed, the longer I've been on here, that many RE's try to jump to IVF pretty quickly. My RE wanted us to move on to IVF after our 3rd failed IUI. We didn't have the financial means, so we continued on with IUIs. On my 5th IUI I got a BFP but M/C at 5wks. So, I personally don't believe in the 3 IUIs only and then move on, heck...we did 12 IUIs until we had to take a break and are finally saving up for IVF. I totally agree with Kim, that you need to ask your RE lots of questions, and inform yourself as much as possible - before making a decision. Feel free to join us at:
