Starting IUI in June after finding out I have PCOS after 4 failed IUI's

Well where to start. I am nervous but hopeful about starting again. They have done some new testing I wish they would have done in the beginning(but i cant dwell in the past I guess). But now that we found out I have PCOS i am hopeful that with the new medications that this IUI will go well. I am starting this thread cause I am not really sure that I belong in any of the ones already started. But I would also like to find out what other people might know about PCOS and trying IUI and how it has worked for others. So any help or advise that anyone can share would be so great. After 4 failed IUI's it makes it hard to even think about beginning all over again. But we all do what we feel is right and well with the new information about what might be wrong it brings a new found hope. I guess what i need to keep in mind is to try and relax as much as possible what is meant to be will be. I just hope that this time what we are all here striving for comes true for not only me but for all of you out there cause in the end all our goals are really the same. And well I think that everyone deserves that happiness that comes to some so easily and to some with much time heartache and all the in between's that make when it happens not only a miracle but a blessing that no one will take for granted. well thank you everyone for letting me babble on and i look forward to hopefully hearing from you.

Hi hopeful one, I think you are coming in with a great attitude. I also have PCOS and have had failed IUI cycles. Don't lose hope, keep trying and hopefully soon you will get your BFP. What is your protocol? Also, why don't you come and join the "May IUI/IVF Sisters in Fertility." The group has many wonderful women who will provide daily advice and the thread is renewed on a monthly basis. Let us know your protocol.

hi hopeful one - would you mind sharing how they did not detect PCOS on all your prior Ultrasounds? I thought that it looked like a string of pearls - glad that you finally got it detected

2011baby - PCOS is a range of symptoms, and amazingly enough having the immature follicles (or cysts - they are technically not cysts which is why the term PCOS is inaccurate) is not a requirement of the condition. You can still have PCOS without the pearling effect on your ovary.

The pearling is also associated with enlarged ovaries.

Hope that helps on why it may have been missed!

Sorry I missed your thread earlier.

I, too, have PCOS. I was dx'd before my IUI's though, but after over a year without any dx from the OB. There are so many things that go into it, the title is so broad..but hopefully it will help the next steps you take with the dr.

During my IUI's I found that my body took longer to respond to some of the meds, and I required much more monitoring than some patients.

Let me know if you have any questions (keep posting, etc).

    PG MENTIONED

Is there a possibility you could have endo and PCOS? Polyps? I ask because I have borderline PCOS and also had endo symptoms & polyps. My 1st 4 IUIs failed, then I opted for a lap. Stage II endo & polyps were discovered and lasered. I got pg on the 2nd IUI after that. The next time it only took one IUI to get pg. You should ask for a lap to make sure. Even a little endo can make a difference, or even polyps. We are ttcing now and I had a failed IUI so we did a hysteroscopy(even though I had a lap just 1 yr ago), and there were 3 polyps in there.

well I have had polyps removed in the past i really dont know what the signs for endo are but my re does not really think that that is a concern but i see what you are saying about asking for the lap. i will def take that into consideration. Probably not this time cause i am so close to starting a cycle and well i just really dont want to prolong it. I know that may be wrong of me and i may be setting myself up for failure but i just feel that its the right thing to do but only time will tell.

Hi hope. I too have the awesome pcos. I don't know what your meds are but if your not on Metformin you should be. Metformin is an insulin sensitizing med. Dr's think that Insulin resistance is a key component of PCOS. I could go on for days about I/R. But I think you should really go to the book store and buy every book they have on PCOS. The best way to fight this thing is threw knowledge. Learn everything you can. It is such a complex disses there is so much to know and so much you can do. The books can tell you about all the lifestyle changes you need to make to improve your fertility and control your symptoms. It will give you insight to the reasons why you are or have always felt like you are not like all the other girls. Things like " why can I grow a better beard than my husband?" or " why am I always on a diet but never loose weight?" or " How come I never get my period?" or my favorite " How come all my friends have kids and I don't?''

The books will let you know your not alone. You are not a freak of nature. YOU CAN have a baby. So read, read, read. Make yourself more informed than your Dr.

    You CAN do this.
