Nervous, scared - got the call - 1st IUI tomorrow

Hi everyone,

How does everyone go throught this emotional roller coaster. I am so excited but also so very nervous. I am taking Clomid 100mg, today was 12 days post AF, had U/S with 8 good size follicles (5 on right, 3 on left) and I just got the call tonite that my boodwork was good and I am ovulating. They want me and my husband in first thing tomorrow.

I am so nervous? My husband has to produce at the office due to distance factors, I am afraid he will be nervous and not able to produce. I am scared and excited and beside myself --any advice for a first timer would be appreciated. What do I ask afterwards? What should I be looking for?

Thanks.

Hi Deni! Just wanted to wish you luck tomorrow !

It is a very emotional process (I was actually a little tearful the first time...fortunately they give you at least 20 minutes to rest afterward, either alone or with dh). I have to tell you...I have had the same concerns about my dh not being able to produce, but he always hops to when needed (he even had to do it once in the restroom of the hospital, as no room was provided for such a thing...can you imagine?) Fortunately, we live close enough to the clinic that we are using now that he can do it at home! Your dh will surprise you (they are pretty resilient).

The procedure itself is not bad (I have had 2...one had cramping, the other did not...neither was nearly as bad as the HSG. If you have ever had one of those, you probably know what I am saying). I don't know what your issues are, but we have male-factor, so I always want to know the count (although I don't really always want to hear what they have to say, 'cause it is generally not good news).

You and I will be cycle buddies! I should be having my IUI #3 on Wed. or Thur. of this week, so we'll be very close. for 2 BFP's!

Thanks for you reply. We have both female and male factor. I am on Clomid due to ovulation and thyroid problems and my DH has low sperm motility. I know he will do ok tomorrow I am just nervous waiting and thinking about everything. After the test - do you just wait 14 days to test or do they do U/S or anything else. I am just happy that everything worked out today, I am a little worried about the number of follicles but my doctor is not so we shall see..........

After the test, you just wait the two weeks... long, long two weeks! No more u/s. However, you will probably have one tomorrow. There's nothing scary about the IUI... It's over before you know it and doesn't feel like much... Good luck and baby dust to you!

P.S. You may want to ask the doctor about progesterone suppositories. They may or may not be important for you. S/he will know the answer.

Ditto to what Lauren said about the long, long two weeks! That is when I find that this site is the most helpful...when we are all in the 2ww together. It helps to have buddies to go through it with !

Re: progesterone suppositories...I don't need them. My doc tests my progesterone levels at 7dpiui (7 days post IUI) and my levels have thus far been fine. At minimum, your doc should be running this test to see. If your levels are not OK, you may need the suppositories. Good luck today!

By the way, it looks like I will not be going in tomorrow (probably Thursday). Darn that OPK!

Just got back from the IUI - everything went well. No pain, very quick process, DH did fine with his part. 8 good sized follicles. They also mentioned that my bloodwork showed my level at 55 for ovulation - can it be too high.

I feel really wierd - when we were leaving the office everyone said good luck and let us know and all that - it made it all more real but at the same time I am trying to now forget about it for the 2ww. *impossible.

Also we start our vacation on Saturday and will not be able to have the 7 dpo check - the NP said it was not a big deal but I am in touble if we miss it.

Thanks for all your support. I am now an official 2 ww'er!

I've never had a 7dpo check, so don't worry about that!

Congrats on having your first (and hopefully last) IUI!! Woo-hoo!!

We always had a 5 dpo check. All they did was check to see how many follies actually released (I think 75% should release with trigger) and start me on progesterone supplements for the rest of the 2ww. Glad that your IUI went well and that dh was able to do his part.

I'm glad to hear your IUI went well! I will have my first IUI in the next few days. I'm feeling nervous about it and it helped toknow I'm not alone and to read all of these reponses.

Good luck and baby dust to you!

PS My RE does a 2-4 day U/S just to check to see if I ovulated, but he didn't say anything about checking my progesterone.
