Help me with these numbers...
I went today for my 2nd iui. (They did the trigger today also) Odd I know, anyway, we are using donor sperm, so I ask the lab for a copy and have a list of numbers, but don't know if they're good or bad or what...hoping you can help,
Volume - 0.5 ml Sperm Density (million/ml) - 73.3 Total Sperm count (million) - 36.7 Total Active Sperm (million) - 13.6 Progressive Motility - 37% (there are some other numbers too, don't know if they're important...this was after it was washed and iui ready.) Also I was trying to pay attention to the ultrasound and get the size of follies. I only had 2 (don't know if it's good or bad) My husband said the monitor said 25 I thought it said 35??? The doctor didn't tell us, so we were trying to figure it out ourselves. The other follies was 16 ??? Tell me if any of these numbers are good or bad...

Hmmm... I'm no expert, but those numbers look pretty good to me! From all that I've read, you have to have at least 5 million sperm to do an IUI, and you're way above that. As for the other stuff, I'm not sure, but the morphology looks good too. They didn't give you "normal" numbers for comparison? I would assume since you're using DS, everything should be good.

Thanks for the reply, no they didn't give me any other numbers, they don't volunteer too much info, I've learned most of this from the great ladies on board here as well as other sites on the net. You've given me some hope! I'm on to my 2ww!

We use donor too. This is only my opinion but the the motility sounds low for after the wash. You have 13 million moving sperm of 37 million total. So that is an overall motility of less than 50% and of those 13 million 37% are moving forward (only forward moving sperm can penetrate).
I would check with your clinic and ask if this donor is proven and if so is this normal for him. If he is not proven I would be considering another donor if that is possible. Again this is just my opinion, I have switched donors several times but I know some people pick one and stay with him because the process of choosing is so hard. I would post these numbers on the donor board too and see what others think. Good luck with the 2ww I hope you don't have to worry about this too long because you get a BFP. Beth ttc #2 rest cycle

I'm so sorry I gave you bad advice - that's what I get for guessing at this stuff. All I knew for sure was that your numbers are way better than my DH, so that was good. Hope you get a clearer answer. BTW, the IF book I'm reading right now had some info about SAs and said that the numbers can vary drastically depending on which system they're using, and can even vary by State, so there may be no definitive answer. Maybe you can ask whoever prepared the SA for their opinion?
