Home Ovulation Test Kits- HELP!

Okay either I'm an idiot or the first woman in the world to screw these up!! I do not think I am "reading" these right or even doing them right. I am doing IUI and my dr wants me to take the home ovulation test kits at home to test for my LH surge, because we show no signs of problems with me ovulating on my own. So last month being my first month, I tested on a friday and then tested again on saturday and went from a dark purple line, that was not similar to the test line to NO line at all and had to scramble to get in for my IUI....which didn't work. So today is day 11 and I started testing yesterday. I had a light purple line yesterday but then when I tested this morning the purple line was lighter than yesterdays!!! DID I MISS IT!?!? DID I HIT MY LH SURGE YESTERDAY!?!?! I tried to test again this afternoon but either screwed it up or found a dud test cause the "purple" never even started to move through the window!! HELP!!!! anyone have an advice on how to do these so I hit this accurately?

I've never been successful with working those things. Can't you be monitored by your Dr?

I was looking at your profile and do you have the year wrong on some of it?

I would ask the doctor to do the blood work. My wife has no fertility issues and a supposedly normal cycle. However, the home sticks and clear blue monitor always gave false early signals. When we tested them along with blood work, she was typically really ovulating a few days after the sticks and monitor indicated.

Having the line get slightly darker or lighter day to day is normal. For me, there was a BIG jump between "not + " and "+". So, when I was using OPKs to test for my IUI, and it was close to +, we scheduled the IUI for the next morning (even though they weren't exactly the same color, they were close enough), knowing that the color would be light again by the following day (which it was).

Yeah I did have those dates wrong on my profile! DUH!! Thanks for letting me know I've fixed those.

Thanks for replying guys! I couldn't take it any more and called the DR and got in for an ultrasound. He showed two follicles about ready to burst or good size as he said, and was quite shocked that it was so early in my cycle. I am to test again in the morning and if it isn't positive which he is expecting it to be, I'm not, I'm to go in for another U/S and then an HCG shot then schedule the IUI.

As for the dr monitoring me more, he was trying to save $$$, which we all need during this time, and figured the home ovulation test kits would be fine since we have no reason to worry about my ovulation so thats what I've been doing. But my gutt just told me that something was amis since my AF cycle was so off last month too!! I'm glad I went in, although I am not happy about the amount of money an U/S is!!! But hopefully this will help us pin point ovulation a bit better and make this a successful IUI!!
