Any success after years of depo? Now 2 iuis? Please read.

I would appreciate any advise or success stories that may be comparable to mine. I desperately need some good news..& hope.

Here is my story -

I am 30 and very happily married for over 6 years now. I had been on b/c for about 5 yrs and depo for 2. (I had a brain tumor 5 years ago and a miscarrage at 22, so I was told pg not likely or not likely to carry to term due to thin lining and b/c brain tumor caused damage to my spine- so hence, b/c - BUT they did NOT explain the side effects of depo).

My husband and I want more than anything to have a child - we really want twins!! I was given the ok by my neurosurgeon and OB to ttc last year. Well no luck so went to fertility dr - he said my lining is still thin, but not from the iscarrage it is from the depo...and nothing will reverse that. I have been through two rounds of clomid...then 1 mo of repronex and hcg booster with iui then prometrium (I still do not understand what the prometrium is for??any one really know?) not successful.

Just had my second iui today. (After 16 shots of repronex 150m and 10,000 HCG...start prometrium tomorrow. I had 30 follicles on my last sonogram (two days ago)..I had at least three at 22 and two at 19 and 20. Took HCG booster on Monday night...lining thickness was at 8 (which I have been told is not very hopeful)...iui this morning.

If it doesn't work this time - my dr said I would have to give my body a break for a couple of months and try IVF (b/c my body seems to be producing tons of follicles - just not holding the right ones long enough).

Hoping and praying this works...guess I just need some hope during this dreadful waiting game.

Any advise would help. Good luck to you all.

Ya know anything is possible. I heard anything 8 or over for your lining is ok. You do produce a lot of follicles, Im surprised they do an IUI with that many. Is your DH's count ok? Sometimes it takes a while for it to work. Ive seen people on here not get BFP till their 8th IUI so ya never know. Dont give up hope!!! Stay positive and imagine your little one in your belly!! Take care...Penny

Ooops. I 4got to add I am 6dpiui. Well 5 and 6 dpiui since I had 2. My RE also has me on prometrium. My lining was 11 but they said the meds help ensure it stays thick.

I hate to say it, but you may have reason to worry. I was on depo for 4 years, and I have been at the TTC game for awhile, and I can't tell you how many people I have met in this IF game and have ironically have taken depo and having no luck.

My RE assues me that it is fine, but I have heard they may take it off the US market soon.

I am like you, I have lots follicles, and I just don't ovulate. They were sure that I would get a + soon with IUIs, and now going on my 7th.

I hate to be down, but I got my 6th negative today. I know it is affiliated with depo..... best of luck and I hope to hear a success story from depo soon! (It is a petuitary gland issue that I am having).

But, with all of that, we can only try and hope for the best....

Kris..Im sorry to hear you got a negative today. I thought for sure with the cramping you said you had that one night that it was a BFN. Cant they give you progesterone for your lining? My RE gave it to me to take 3 times a day. He said even though my lining was ok he gives it to all his patients just to make sure the implantation holds. I never knew that the depo shot causes problems like that. I never had it but that sucks for the people that have and didnt know. Are you gonna try again this next cycle? I think you should. So many people end up with a BFP that I know yours is on the way. As for me Im 6dpiui today and my lower belly has been aching really bad today. I called my RE's office cuz I wanted to make sure its normal and they said the progesterone can cause AF like cramps and so can all the meds I took but she didnt think it would cause aching. She also mentioned it may be implantation but Im not getting my hopes up too high. My prometrium also makes me so friggin tired it not even funny. I hope you dont lose faith. Your time will come!! Im here if ya need to talk. Penny

Kris - Did your RE ever mention the 10,000 ius of HCG to jump start ovulation? I wasn't ovulating before - but after the first iui - they told me I did ovulate, the only problem was my lining. We can't get discouraged...well we can, but I just keep telling myself that one day soon - something has got to work. Good luck and keep your chin up...you are doing everything you can...it will work.

pg ment

I never took depo, but I did have a Norplant for 9 years before I got pg with dd#1 (first cycle, natural conception). I then put in another Norplant, and had it for 3 years before removing it to conceive again. This time (with a new husband) we had to use donor sperm IUI, but I got pg on the first cycle with IUI. I've heard of women who've had trouble getting pg after birth control, but I never have.

Good luck!
Jessica
