How many follicles with clomid?

I'm still in my clomid vs injectibles debate and mad I spent $1400 to have the trigger with only 2 mature follies out of 10. So, I am wondering, how many follicles do you typically get with clomid? I know that my E2 is naturally a bit low, I'm just curious if someone could tell me how many follies they got with different doses of clomid. I don't see the point of spending so much if I can get 2-3 follies with clomid, as they won't trigger with much more than that with injectibles anyway...

Thanks!

Clomid vs Injectibles

Hi,
I'm still learning all of this as we speak. I was always told I have many follies, but they never gave me an exact number. I would ask the tech doing the ultrasound and she would say you have 4 good ones on one side and 2 on the other side and many little ones. I was on clomid for 5 months with my OB then for another 5 or so months with my specialist. We tried IUI once and then ordered the follistim shots. I thought we would do IUI again with the shots, but haven't been able to do the shots with my estrogen level being too high so he recommonded surgery to remove or asperate the cysts I now have due to being on the clomid for too long then jump to IVF. I'm looking at a mid April surgery date then hopefully IVF around June.

I'm worried about my estrogen level being high and not sure really what that means anyways. I've read that cycles are canceled due to the estrogen levels.

Sorry didn't really answer your question. The more I read or lerk as others say the more I'm learning. I guess everyone has a different amount of follies and I don't even know what is "normal"

Good Luck

wow! thanks for the details on your clomid responses.
I'm not sure what my specific ovulation problem is because I know I respond really good with the clomid. I'm still wondering if IUI would work once I can start the follistim shots rather than going through egg retrieval.

Thanks a lot Kris. I was a very good responder for injectibles, so still wondering if I would have 2 or 3 follies with clomid, as I had 10ish with 2 vials of injectibles.

It was my first month, started with injectibles, 150iui a day for 9 days, then we had to decrease to 75iui for 2 days.

I don't know for sure, but from my wife's experience, we got the impression that the response to clomid can depend quite a bit on your diagnosis. If there are several issues going on, the response may be very weak, but if you ovulate normally on your own the response can be very strong.

Our issue is exclusively male factor so my wife, as far as we know, has no issues. She responded very strongly to Comid. First round 100 mg she had 4 follicles, conceived, and still had AF much stronger than usual, and eventually miscarried. The second round (ultimately cancelled) was also on 100 mg and she had 6 follicles and three turned into large cysts.

The doctors thought it was a great response, but we thought it was too much and I wish they had started her out on 50 mg. We're going to be discussing this with them before another round.

Hope the info helps.

Kris-I can't believe how many IUI's you've had. I had one without injectables and now doc is jumping to IVF.

Hang in there!
