    Stupid Question

OK, I know I should know the answer to this, but I don't. Here is what I understand about ovulation. our folicles are in the ovary, and when you ovulate, they head down the tube to your uterus. The uterus is where the sperm are. You can only ovulate for about 24-36 hours (or get pregnant), and then 14 days later you shed the follicles (AF).

My question, where do the follicles go after the uterus. They can't stay there, as then someone could get pregnant if they stayed..... sorry for the silly question, but need to know!

Also, where do they nestle in for pregnancy?

    Need some IF 101!!

    Me and DH.

I remember reading this, and I think it is either that--because they are so tiny-- you shed them with your period, or they just kind of disitegrate and are reabsorbed into your body. I think that is right?

I would guess the follicles go with AF... Good question, lol. I've always wondered what path the blood takes during AF personally (gross, sorry).

Your follicles produce eggs and only one (sometimes 2 ) beat out the others for dominance.
That dominant follicle(s) grows one egg.
That egg grows to maturity and is released by the follicle.
The sperm are in your tube waiting to meet it.
The egg actually fertilizes by the sperm at the top of your tube by the ovary
Then the embie splits and grows as it gets pushed down the the tube (by villi type things) into your uterus.
Then it either implants or not.

That is why you need to have sex/insems/IUI BEFORE ovulation. If the egg is fertilized too late in the tube travel it may not be mature enough to latch on to the uterus and then it just gets washed out.

Only if you are on stim drugs and are having a period after the retrieval cycle do you have tons of eggs all over the place in your uterus.

That doesn't seem right. Lots of people have the IUI at 36 hours after the HCG, and ovulation rarely happens after 36 hours with HCG.
