Girls,
I am kind of stressing. I have some questions too. I was showing an ovulation on my predictor kid, so my RE had me go in for a u/s today. He said, he is concerned that I am not "triggering," and that also may have been part of the problem all along. I had two "nice" lead follicles, and my lining was at 9.634 mm - he said 1 cm was the best, but I was close so that is good, and that he think I will gain a a couple hunderdths of a mm before Saturday, which is apparently the big day. But tomorrow I have to get a shot of HCG or preginol (is that right?) So Saturday morning at 9 AM, I will be there! I just wasnt expecting to have to get injections etc. He said next month he will put me on the HCG anyway, and also give me some estrogen in addition to the clomid to help build my lining. This is all so new, and I have read a lot about this stuff, but these details are a little overwhelming. What should I expect on Saturday? Is the insemination painful or uncomfortable. I am so scared it won't work! Does all this seem normal?

Melissa, good to see you! HCG trigger is used to make your follicles release the eggs if they don't do it on their own. It's a one time thing and doesn't hurt much. Your lining is fine. My clinic considers anything over 8mm good. The IUI is not painful (for the most part). It's a procedure that lasts about 5 minutes. The RE will put a clamp on your cervix to keep it open and then insert a very thin cacheter filled with the sperm into your uterus. Your uterus will contract when the cacheter is inserted and it does feel uncomfortable but not unbearable. I don't think you could cause it to fail because you're scared but it's probably better not to contract too much so practice taking some deep breaths. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Hope,
Thanks for writing. How are YOU doing? Weren't we supposed to be cycle buddies. When was your IUI? How are things going for you? This is all just so overwhelming. I have read so many books on this, and I am comfortable with what happens during the IUI, but it is all the other stuff that is unexpected and that I just feel a little unsure about. Can the HCG make you get a false positive on a HPT after the 2ww? I know that is one of the reasons not to test early, but after the 2ww, can a HPT still read the hormone? Sorry for all the questions. |

Hey Melissa, glad to hear from you again
![]() First, the HCG is I think a very good decision from your RE, as it means you *will* ovulate. Don't worry too much about the shot... I was totally freaking out (and so was dh), but it went like a charm... dh actually couldn't get the needle in the first time, and when he did, I was like 'it's in yet?', because I didn't feel anything. Just make sure your dh checks there is no blood in the seringe, but it's really easy. Good luck! For the estrogen, I haven't heard of it, but it sounds good. For the IUI itself, I didn't feel anything (and I was one of those for whom the HSG hurt a lot). She had to try to find the cervix three times, but even that didn't hurt, it was just a bit unpleasant. The doc who did it told me that we're not supposed to feel anything. I cramped afterwards, but I always do around ovulation for a few days anyway. Let us know how it goes! |

Hi Melissa and Fran,
I had my IUI today and it went well. I've had cramps all day but seems to have gone away now. I start progesterone shots tonight and am a bit freaked by the size of the needle. I'm now officially in the 2ww! I've already bought 3 hpt tests which I plan on using on 12, 13 & 14dpiui.... HCG stays in your system depending on what amount you took. Not sure exactly how many days but if you took the highest dose of 10,000iu then it should be gone by 11dpiui. It will definitely be gone by day 14. Does your clinic do blood tests or do they ask you to hpt at home? Fran, how's the 2ww going? It already seems too long to me! lol |

First, your lining sounds great, anything over 8mm is good to my RE.
The IUI is not bad, but sometimes a little discomfort. It is good you are triggering, it puts the timing in your REs hands. It is normal to be nervous, but don't worry, we will be here for you!! Is your DH going to go??

Yes, DH will be there. He has been really supportive. My doc is great, too because he order my meds from this pharmacy in North Caroline, called IVP.com. I got my clomid for $17, and the injection for $25. My insurance doesnt cover any of it, and here it is SOOOO expensive. I am really nervous. I am having such a hard time being positive. I just know it's not going to work. That is horrible, I know. But, I am just too afraid to get my hopes up.
Say some prayers and keep your fingers crossed! How are YOU doing Kris?
