This has not been my week...

I know that in the grand scheme of life, these are not a big deal, and a lot of people have things so much worse, but this has not been my week!

On Tuesday, I was driving to work on a semi-rural road, and all of a sudden I saw a deer run onto the road - 2 seconds later she plowed right into the side of my truck. Fortunately, I was fine, and she died quickly so she did not have to suffer. It was very traumatic for me though - I don't have problems with people who hunt and kill deer, but I could never do it myself, and I love animals way too much to see them hurt or suffering.

Then last night when we were trick or treating, I took a nasty spill. We were leaving a house and the kids had run down through the yard - I also cut down through the yard, which sloped downward. The people had their leaves all piled up and the curb and I didn't know where the curb was. I was watching the kids and probably not paying much attention, and when I hit the curb I think only the back part of my heel was on the curb and I started falling forward. I took several large, lunging steps forward trying to stop the fall, but to no avail. I fell forward, with most of my weight coming down on my shoulder. (However, I know that I did look very graceful throughout the whole process ) My shoulder is very sore, and I am now trying to decide if it is just "sore" or if there could perhaps be something wrong.

Here's hoping for a better week this week!

It's it amazing how when it rains, it pours!??!!

So sorry for your car, but mostly sorry for your shoulder and the poor deer. I'm glad the deer died quickly (although I would have been crying my eyes out!) and hopefully your sore shoulder isn't anything worse.

Try to take it easy and nurse yourself back to health

Donna, I did cry - for the deer! The poor gentleman who stopped to help me was very kind, and humored me through my emotions. He even stayed with the deer for a few moments, rubbing her head, until she stopped moving. He did that for me, not for the deer. Bless his heart.

hugs for your rotten week. things can only go up!! we have lots of deer in our area and I was worrying about my teens popping one, but so far so good, just abi and that other car so far. btw, she's back on the road, a bit wiser for the world. are you trying motrin on a regular basis for your shoulder? the anti-inflammatory effect will kick in if you are doing it every 4-6 hrs for a few days and may help. I know that's what I'd have my kids doing, and what they offered my dad for his tree incident.

Sorry to hear about the deer and your car. That same thing has happened to my sister and numerous friends who living in upstate NY -- they don't hit the deer per say, it runs into the side of the car.

I'm glad you are OK though -- I agree with Melanie for your shoulder. I hurt my back once and asked a pediatrician friend what my doctor would do and she said the first thing would be a week of Motrin/Advil to keep the inflammation down before they tried anything else (unless it was an obvious break of course!). I hope you feel better soon.

oh Darci... what a rough week. The man who stopped sounds great, I would have been a mess. Hope the shoulder is feeling better soon. If it isn't then go see an orthapedist because shoulders are not something you want to mess with.

Hugs my friend

I'm sorry to hear about those events. Of course, we all know that there are much worse, more serious & things that could be happening and we should be thankful they aren't, but those "slings & arrows" of normal life hurt too.

I hope your shoulder heals up well!

Hang in there

Darci, sorry to hear about your bad week. I say the same about the poor deer. I tried hunting once and just couldn't do it.

I hope your shoulder feels better soon and that it is just bruised.

You have a kind heart. Now me - I would have been calling my farmer friend about how to transport that deer to make chili out of her! (ooo - that sounds heartless, but if she's dying anyway, may as well make use of the organic meat! And venison makes great chili!)

Sorry about your shoulder - that really stinks. Ice and advil. I'd consider going to a chiropractor too. A spill like that surely will affect more than just your shoulder. Hope you feel better really soon!
