Hi everyone, I have a question regarding skin tone.
When we were up north over July 4th, I noticed what I thought looked like a patch of skin close to Morgans eye - basically from the outside of the eye, almost to his hairline - that looked much lighter than the rest of his face, like it hadn't tanned the same as the rest of his face. I wrote it of to maybe just being dry and looking white, and forgot about it.
I noticed it again this weekend when we were outside - it was pretty warm outside, and his face was flushed, but the same area looked much lighter.
I am starting to lotion his face-he has always had dry skin - but I am worried that it is something else, like a pigment issue.
Has anyone else had this happen with their kids as they tan????

You might want to just get it looked at by your Ped. But that being said Mateo gets very blotchy skin because he has excema (sp?). It started out last summer as one small mark on his cheek. Now it has gotten a little worse as he has gotten older and is out in the sun more. It is mild but what my Ped said is that for darker skinned people instead of being a red mark (like it would on us) it shows up as a blotchy patch. When his gets bad on his face we put on hydrocortizone cream. We also babyoil his body after bath, before we dry him, to help with his dry skin in general.... we tried using AVENO baby lotion but he hated it so the Ped recommended the babyoil.

I took Amy to the pediatrician last summer for a similar complaint -it looked as if she were losing pigmentation. He proclaimed "dry skin" so we slathered on the Eucerin. The doc was right.

Darci,
The same thing with Soph! She has blotches all over from Exema as well. We now use only Cetaphil for wash and Lubriderm and Eucerin. I would ask your ped though the next time that you are in. Our ped gave us a stronger dose of Hydrocortisone by script to help.Amy, Proudest Mommy to the two greatest miracles of my life!

OK Darci..I can speak on this topic as I already went to a specialist for Madison...
Madison has this..It is called Pityriasis Alba....There is nothing you can do but my pediatric dermotologist gave me a perscription creme that we put on her face at night. Read the link below

Same with Rena. We have been using Eucerin calming cream and it seems to be doing the job.

Lyndi also has the excema problem but hers is mostly on her legs. She is a picker so has some scars with her blotches. Hers are mostly on her legs.
