I was quite excited today because after work I was going to take all of our notarized documents to be certified.... Well what a headache!!! First of all let me say the county in which we live is probably the most unorganized of them all....
My sw said to go the office of the Prothonotary, so I did. The woman there insisited there was no such thing as getting a document certified... and that she had worked there 31 years and had never heard of such a thing.... After awhile she determined I was at the wrong office, sent me to another office, where I was then directed to the correct office!!! Once I get there they inform me it called "flagged" not certified. What ever.... They then tell me that the only woman who does that didn't work today and may not be in tomorrow, but the woman who sits next to her would take the 10 copies of the certification to the woman's home for her signature and then bring them back to the office tomorrow... How bizarre is that? And then she said "are you sure you want 10 because they are 5 dollars each"
Oh my, does it sound like we are the first to adopt in our county or what???
Just wanted to vent, dh isn't quite as annoyed as I am, he is just like "What do you expect, it's the county!!"

Adopting from Guatemala, our agency told us county certification is all that is required... Hope they aren't misleading us......

Nope, you don't need State Seals for Guatemala. I know that some people do it, especially if they have things notarized by people in more than 1 county so they don't have to go to separate county offices for certification, but it's not required.
Sorry yours was such a hassle. Ours (almost 6 yrs ago!) was split. One County office was very crowded so it took a while, the other very empty and quick. I made a mental note that if we ever did it again I would make sure they all came from the quick county!Gail, Mom to:

hi Heather, when we were in Harrisburg, only 20 minutes out of the city, we just took everything downtown to have certified, after having everything notarized at our home by a friend. Then off to the Guat consulate in NY to be verified again! we had things coming from Indiana, Cambria and Dauphin counties.
funny, even in our state capitol, there were so many people who didn't have a clue!

Wow, I never heard the term "flagged". Weird.
Well, at least they offered the personal service of running the copies to the lady's house for signing!
I hope the rest of the paperwork falls together efficiently,

Many, many hugs. I hated the paperchase and I strong sympathize with you, hon. I shed more tears over docs than anything else, I hope it will over soon, it feels to good to send the dossier and be done with the durn PC.
It will get better.

Huge hugs to you! I hate dealing with PA on stuff like this! They held up our dossier to Russia by about 6-8 weeks because I didn't realize I needed a courier to get apostiles from Harrisburg, otherwise they sit on a desk FOREVER! Hang in there - it's all worth it....
