    I think this is it...Taiwan

I think we've settled with Taiwan. We have been researching agencies and countries, I think we're settled with the Florida Homestudy & Adoption. Has anyone has any experience with this agency. The lady I've been talking to is super sweet, and I feel that Taiwan may be for us. We've went back and forth back and forth...has anyone adopted from Taiwan? Any feedback?

We are wanting to get a few more things done to our home (re-painting etc.) and then do the homestudy. Anyone have any suggestions for the homestudy? Lmk

We're excited, but know it's still gonna be a long road...the homestudy and figuring out how to pay for this. How does most people pay for adoption? It's so costly. We're hoping we can borrow the money??

    Hi,

No Taiwan info here, I just wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS! I hope everything falls into place!

As for finances, many families refinance their homes to extract some of the equity. Others save for a while, work hard to sell things on ebay or garage sales, borrow from family and use credit cards. The good thing is that the money is usually not due all at once, so you can work at it during the process, too.

    GOOD LUCK!

Congratulations .... choosing your country is a HUGE step. Sorry I have no Taiwan specific advice and don't know the agency but be sure to check them out on lots of boards so you get feedback on them specifically working with Taiwan.

As for Financing... we used savings for both... but we didn't have enough to cover everything and while the Adoption tax credit is nice you have to have the money upfront We did a re-fi for part of one adoption and took a 401K loan for the other.... then paid that back with our tax return. We also flew using Frequent Flyer miles and tried to use hotel points for our stay, we were short a few hundred to do that unforunately. You can have people give you FF miles if you know the airline you will likely fly on. I know several people who got miles for their baby presents at their showers. Luckily we had enough miles to fly first class which was great with a lap baby...... though when DH was traveling so much to earn those miles it didn't feel lucky There are little things you can do to shave off money here and there. If you have a friend who is a notary you can see if they will travel for you so you don't have to pay one when you are doing your dossier, ours were $50 - 75 and we needed them 4 times so that was a hunk of change.

Good luck and keep us posted. We haven't had many Taiwan parents here so I would love to hear more about the process.
