already ovulating & on clomid - other people's experiences?
Hi everyone,
I'm wondering if those of you who were put on clomid even though you're already ovulating on your own have experienced what I'm experiencing right now. This is my first cycle on clomid. I took 100 mg, from days 5 to 9. We used preseed, too. I'm now on CD 31 and took a pg test yesterday afternoon, which was negative, although I could see maybe a very, very, very, very faint line in there... My cycle is usually about 28 days, but has been known to become wonky when I'm TTC. The only thing I can think is that I ovulated late (although I was pretty much dry by CD 18), but that's confusing to me because I thought clomid forced ovulation around day 14. Doesn't clomid force ovulation at a more-or-less predictable time??

Clomid can delay cycles to 32-35 days. I took only 50 mg, but my OB/GYN's info sheet said at this dosage O should occur around cd16-19, and don't call or test before cd35. My RE also said O should occur starting around cd15 and onward. My cycles were around 33-35 days on this dosage, which was an improvement for me as my natural cycles are anywhere from 40-50 days. I usually O'd around cd16 and once on cd18.
Are you being monitored with u/s and/or bloodwork? I'll keep my for you! Good luck!

Thanks for responding.
I'm not being monitored. My Ob-Gyn just told me to bd on days 12, 14 and 16, without even mentioning that it could delay ovulation... ![]() AF came today, so I figure I ovulated around CD 18!! I'm thinking I'll do two more clomid cycles. Do you have any idea if it's more effective on days 3-7? I've read that it's prescribed on days 3 to 7 for people with shorter cycles and who are already ovulating on their own. I've called my doc and asked to be referred to someone else. I can't handle this guy anymore. I'm just supposed to shut up and take the drugs and call him in three months. |

I will say that I was prescribed days 5-9 and my cycle is usually about 28 days. I ovulated on day 14 or 15 like clockwork. I also ovulate on my own but only have one ovary. It sounds like your protocol is correct(ish) but that you need to be monitored better.

I know this is a little late, but in my case I ovulated early on clomid. My cycles are usually 26-28 days and on clomid I ovulated on day 12 where as when I went on the injectables it was day 14.
Also I had internal ultrasounds on or about days 10-12. The first month I took it cycle days 5-9 next three were dasy 3-7. However with both I ovulated on day 12. My doctor is really great when it comes to treatment he lets me pick what I want to do and tells me if I am wasting my money or not. I hope things worked out for you. Good Luck |

One more thing to keep in mind (someone else may have already said it?) -- Clomid can thin your lining, especially with repeated use. I think they should be checking that, which would be another piece of ammunition for asking for an u/s.
Hope it's not too personal.... but presumably you've had a fertility workup, including sperm analysis for your partner? I've read too many posts about people who didn't have any testing prior to taking Clomid. I don't think it can hurt anything, but if you have other IF issues it certainly won't help. Just my 2 cents. Good luck. -Tia |

If you are seeing an OB/GYN it is best to transfer to a Reproductive Endocrinologist for reproductive problems. Many OB/GYN's are difficult to get appointments with due to their many patients and you often end up doing alot of fighting to get treatment and you may not be monitored or treated the way you should be. I went to an OB/Gyn for a year to accomplish what could have been taken care of in a few months with an endocrinologist, don't suffer longer than you have too!

on clomid and ovulated
I am on clomid. I took it cd3-7 It was a nightmare in my opinion. I ovulated on my own without the trigger shot on day 14. well i had my lh surge on day 14. So it did not mess my cycle days up. That is pretty typical for me.

Hello ladies! I'm so glad I found this site. I too am TTC. I've had 2 previous MCs, we went through the infertility work up, had chromosome testing done, and everything came back normal. My Dr is treating me w/ Clomid CD3-7 and I start taking Prometrium on CD 21. Last month was my first month on these meds, and for the first time in my life I had an irregular cycle. I started after 2 HPTs, BW and 37 days. I'm hoping this month goes smoother. I've always been able to tell previously when I was ovulating (mild pains on my right or left side around day 14) but now that I'm on these meds, there's nothing normal going on. Any suggestions??

Carla,
I too am on clomid and I am very regular. Well I am also able to tell when I ovulate by my discharge and pains on either side. This month I had very little d/c (clomid is known to do that) and I had pains on both sides quite a bit. I did an IUI and I am now either about to start within two days or I am pregnant but I think clomid screwed my cycle up because my boobs are not sore and they always are like a week before I start and I just don't feel like I am going to start but I also do not feel pg. I hate this stuff. So are you going to take clomid again. I like it because it gives us a better chance but not really if it screws my already normal cycle up!!! wendy |
