Dr. Kwak Kim?
Hello all,
This is my first time posting here. I found this site while Googling Dr. Kwak Kim. I see that a number of you have worked with her and have good things to say. I am considering traveling to see her, but am looking for some opinions on whether or not it's worth it in my current situation. All opinions welcome! A little background…DH and I have been TTC for 2 years now. After 1 year, we went to see an RE. I told her that I usually spot before AF begins, so she prescribed Prometrium. BFP that cycle. M/C at 11 weeks. Since then, I have been diagnosed with luteal phase defect (based on the fact that I spot and because I got pg once with Prometrium) and have done 4 more rounds of Prometrium and 2 rounds of clomid (1st=BFN; 2nd was cancelled b/c of overstim). I’m now seeing a new RE. She agrees with the LPD diagnosis and wants to try Femara+Ovidrel. Now, I know in the big picture I haven’t been down the IF treatment road very far, but I have this nagging feeling like there is something else going on that hasn’t been looked at. I’m very tempted to go out to Chicago and meet with Dr. Kwak Kim to see if there is something being overlooked. Anyone know, with my background, if she’d even see me? I remember reading that she works with women who have had multiple miscarriages (I’ve only had one), unexplained IF (both RE’s seem to think its LPD) and failed IVF’s (I haven’t been down that road). I just hate to spend more time, money and energy on treatment if there is an immune issue that might be causing all my problems. Anyone care to share their opinion? Also, does anyone have an idea of what it costs to see Dr. Kwak Kim? I would be completely out of pocket, so that may play into my decision as well. Thanks!

wait, it would be pretty easy for them to confirm a short LP issue (a lot of docs dont even think this is a "real thing" btw) by simply triggering you to ovulate and then waiting on AF OR just by you using OPK's and then getting AF. Did you notice that you got AF very shortly after a +OPK?
Femara and ovidril wouldnt help a short LP since all it would do is make more eggs and then force ovulation. Why not give you vaginal progesterone to help - most ladies will not get AF while on them since it keeps the progesterone high in your system and tricks body into thinking its preggo. Before traveling to her i would look into other options 1st. She specializes in multiple m/c but moreso in m/c due to immune disorders so i dont know that she would see you if you dont suspect immune disorder, etc. She wouldnt even talk to me or schedule an appt with me until she saw why my RE wanted me to come and see her and reviewed my chart. some ladies have had great sucess with making LP longer with Vitamin B so i would look into that as well. I have had 4 m/c's in the last 2.5 years and they are always at the same time in the pregnancy - 6 weeks. I now found with the new tests that were done that i had a +APA test along wiht 2 MTHR genes and VERY VERY high natural killer cells (which is what was causing the m/c's). Most RE's wont even consider giving you the tests until the 3rd m/c (unless you beg, lol) but in your case you m/c later in the pregnancy so i wonder if they wouldnt be more interested in testing you. Were they able to tell you why you m/c'd or test the tissue? Have you had genetic testing wiht your DH? Am i allowed to post other website on her wiht info on vit b and LP? |
