New to forum with test results - can anyone help decipher? (m/c ment)
Hello!
My husband and I started TTC in February after an accidental pg and m/c last November. We got pg right away, then m/c at around 7 weeks. I started having pg symptoms again and thought maybe I had some lingering hormones, but found out I was pg again, but that my beta levels were already falling at 5 weeks and I would have another m/c. My GP sent us to an RE and 25 vials of blood, and a new appreciation of how awesome my insurance is, later and I have a bunch of test results I don't really understand. My RE is very nice and very good, but seems to think I have the intelligence of a kindergartener and just tells me that it means that I have an immune and clotting issue and need to take Metafolin and Lovenox/Low Dose Aspirin/Progesterone from 2dpo til bfp/af. But I really want to understand what in the heck these mean and what is going on with my body... I've tried googling til I think my fingers are going to fall off, but can't find much info that I can access without subscriptions or that seems specific to the test results that came back positive. I know it is a lot to ask, but if anyone could help me understand these, I'd really appreciate it! These were the abnormal tests from bloodwork taken when we found out I was having a third m/c: Phosphoethanolamine IgM - Positive (from RIA lab, no reference value given) beta 2 Glycoprotein IgM - Positive (16.7, normal is <5) AT3 Antigen - High (35, normal is 24.9-33.1) MTHFR C677T - Heterozygous These were the tests taken at the same time that came back normal: HSG (although one tube seems to be taking the long road to the ovary...) Chromosomal Analysis ANA Prolactin AT3 Functional beta 2 Glycoprotein IgG Factor V Leiden Protein C Protein S Lupus Anticoagulant Anti-Microsome (TPO) Anti-Thyroglubulin Homocystein ACTH Anti-Annexin V IgG (E) Anti-Annexin V IgM (E) Factor II (PT20210A) GC by PCR (TP) Cortisol (AM/PM) Cardiolipin IgM/IgG/IgA Phosphoethanolamine IgG/IgA Phosphoinositol IgM/IgG/IgA Phosphoglycerol IgM/IgG/IgA Phosphoserine IgM/IgG/IgA Phosphocholine IgM/IgG/IgA Also, hubby had SA done which came back as "fantastic" according to the nurse, and chromosomal analysis which was normal as well. If anyone is able to help me make sense of the abnormal test results, what they might be caused by, if there is anything I might be doing that is making them worse or could be doing that is making them better, if there is anything else I should be getting checked that the RE may not be aware of, and if you have anything similar and if you were successful at carrying to term, I'd really appreciate it!!! Thanks in advance!!! Jen

Hi Jen,
So sorry for your losses. Sounds like you have some answers. The protocol you are given sounds right. I also have the same mthfr as you and I have cardiolipin antibodies which can also cause clotting problems. I take daily baby aspirin, extra folate and lovenox and progesterone post ovulation when I'm cycling. I will try to put this in layman's terms. Phosphoethanolamine IgM - Positive (from RIA lab, no reference value given) beta 2 Glycoprotein IgM - Positive (16.7, normal is <5) AT3 Antigen - High (35, normal is 24.9-33.1) - These 3 are part of APA Syndrome. http://www.rialab.com/pdf/caawrsa.pdf. This link should help. Basically there are anti-bodies that can cause clotting problems and in this case thombetic events that can cause m/c. These abnormalties are probably acquired meaning you weren't born with them. The Mthfr C677T heterozygous means you have one copy of this gene, having 2 copies is much worse. Having said that you should be taking extra folate or a prescription folic acid/b vitamin combination. These links should help. http://ghr.nlm.nih.gov/gene=mthfr; http://www.pregnancy-info.net/mthfr.html If you do a search on this forum, you may find other helpful information. Stacey |
