Prednisone dosage?

Hi,

I have high ANAs and I'm on baby aspirin, heparin, and prednisone. I've been reading that a lot of people are on 10 mg a day of prednisone. My doctor has me on only 5 mg a day. Just curious about the dosage. Any one else just taking 5 mg?

A friend being treated out of New York was on 5mg. But this was without having natural killer cells or other immunity diagnosed.

I have high level NK cells I started on 10mg on commencement of stims then increased to 20mg after retrieval. (Along with baby asprin and heparin)

Hi,

Thanks for that. How long did she stay on the 20 mg?

It was me that was on the 20mg dose.

If the cycle was a success (which it wasn't) I was meant to stay on it for 16 weeks at which point you slowly wean your self off the dose by 5mg a week.

I started preconceptionally with 10 mg because of high cytokines and at a positive HPT we increased at 20 mg. My cytokines went crazy after the 6th week of pregnancy so we upped the dosage at 30mg which is considered high. We started weaning off at 12 weeks and I stopped completely at 18 weeks. Prednisone should not be given after 20 weeks as it may cause a rupture of the membranes.

HTH!!

Hi Christina,

So you were taking 10 mg once a day? or twice? And did you take it all at once, in the morning?

Thanks!

P.S. What does "hth" mean?

From cycle day 16 until a pregnancy test I was on 10 mg once daily. The protocol was: In case of a BFN I stopped the prednisone and start again at cycle day 16. In case of a BFP I upped the dose to 10 mg twice daily. In case this continued for 3 months withouth a BFP I was supposed to call my doctor and reevaluate. Prednisone is a not something to play with.
I was taking 10 mg twice in the morning and 10 mg in the afternoon, a total of 30 mg daily since my cytokines flared after my BFP. My doctor said that 30 mg is the highest she would go with. At 12 weeks I was weaned off 5 mg every week.
Trust your doctor. I guess the treatment for ANAs is different from the treatment for cytokines.

Hope This Helps!! HTH
Good Luck
