Predinsone?

For those of you who took predinsone I have some questions about it.

1. What does it do? Benefits?
2. When did you start taking it?
3. How long did you take it for?
4. Side effects/risks?

I have APA and have only been taking heparin and baby aspirin during my IVF cycles. I've been pregnant twice, but lost both pregnancies before being diagnosed (one 2nd trimester loss and one early loss). Since then my last three cycles have failed and they have all been perfect. I am wondering if predinsone would help?

Thank you!

Sorry about your losses. I donīt know much about prednisone, but I think itīs a steroid and itīs supposed to help your body not reject the embryo. Iīve never taken it as you can tell. Hopefully someone who knows about it from experience can answer your question better than me. Good Luck.

prednisone (a steroid) is suppose to supress your immune system so if you have an autoimmune disorder it is suppose to stop any flare ups of the immune system. The idea is if your body is trying to attack something it is not suppose to the prednisone helps stop it.

1. What does it do? Benefits? It's supposed to suppress the immune system, so it doesn't attack an embryo in early pregnancy.
2. When did you start taking it? I started taking it with the start of Lupron (before starting stims) as recommended by Dr. Coulam
3. How long did you take it for? It's supposed to be taken for the 1st 10 weeks of pregnancy.
4. Side effects/risks? There are S/E's and risks of taking prednisone, but if you have an immune issue, then the benefits should outweigh the risks.

pg ment.

I agree with what everyone else said. I have taken it with both of my pg's but was on it for 12 weeks with the first one and this time am still on it at 16 weeks and dr. said I will stay on it until like 30 weeks.

Side effects havn't been bad. Headahes and sleeplessness at first and now I'm starting to sprout a few beard hairs but I just puck them and look forward to getting of the meds later. It's totally worth it if it's what will do the trick.

Yes, I'm taking Arixtra (allergic to Lovonox and Heparin). We didn't know about the anticardiolipin or antinuclear until I was about 10 weeks so I didn't start taking it until then.

What made you try prednisone? Did your doctor have good reason? My doc said that taking lupron either while on stims, or while taking estrogen during a frozen transfer is the same as taking prednisone (apparently it suppresses the immune system too). Any thoughts on this?

I haven't had to take lupron before, because I don't get my period on my own. However my last frozen IVF cycle, I did take lupron, because my doctor said that it suppresses the immune system, it was still a failed cycle. I started lupron 10 days before I started estrogen. Do you think I would start prednisone at the same time as lupron in this case too?
