If you have immune problems, can you do IUI?

I just had a failed IVF cycle. I want to be tested for immune issues before moving on. If they find some immune issues, can I use IUI or do I have to do IVF?

Thanks.

Hi,
If immune issues r found, it can be very pricy to treat, especially with ivig. And doc don't want u to spend so much on ivig, and/or lovenox with iui bc of its low success rate. If u r gonna spend so much on treating ur immune issues, it maybe better to stick to ivf bc of its great success.
With that said, I have immune issues and have decided to go back to doing iuis after my failed ivfs. There is no gaurentee that ur ivf cycles will work even if treated for immune issues. So I've opted to do iuis with cheaper immune meds like intralipids instead of ivig and heparin instead of lovenox. All of which do the same thing. Further more, I had a lap last wed that discovered endo, which could also contribute to infertility and immune issues. So if uve never had a lap I would definitely suggest you have one.
Hope this helps. This is what I can share from personal experience.

Lynn

Hi Lynn,
Sorry about the endo. Were they able to remove it?

Child Ment.
Dr.Andrea because of your age, IVF is the fastest way but like Lynn said there are no guarantees. I have children and had IF before and now ran into immune issues ttc again and am doing immune tx. with my IUI's. I'm over 40 so having said that it's really a personal decision. If your fsh is in the low range you could probably get away with a few IUI's and see how it goes and how you respond. If you have high fsh I wouldn't bother with IUI's and go straight to IVF because egg quality starts declining and you don't want to waste time. Hope that helps.

Hey Stacey-pooh,

How are you? Can you believe this... i have endo!!! after all these iuis and ivfs and immune treatments, i have endo. well im thinking it was mild. i actually went in for a hysteroscopy bc my last shg found some blob thingy in my womb. so i went to my gyno and asked him to do the surgery and also do a lap just in case. well the blob thingy according to the path report turned out to be an overgrowth of endometrium although the doc says it looks like polyp and scar tissue. well after the surgery, i was still kinda out of it, so the doc spoke breifly to dh. he mentioned the polyp, scaring on hysteroscopy and endo with lap. he also mentioned that its all gone and im clean as a whistle. my post-op appt is next friday so i will find out more then. im guessing it was a mild case of endo since he was able to get it all.

have you ever had a lap? im not even sure about the recup time. im feeling so much better today but from what ive read im suppose to take it easy for 1-2 wks. it hasnt even been a week yet and im ready to hit the gym but im scared.

so how r u holding up?

xoxoxo

Lynn,
That's good you had it all taken care of. I've had a lap many years ago. It took a few days for me but I didn't have anything burned or cut out so maybe that is why he is saying 1-2 weeks. I'm in the 2ww and start the lovenox tomorrow. I had the intralipid this past Monday. Fingers crossed. I was told no jogging and taking it easy. I was in severe O pain Sat. Today is better but still hurting. Keep me posted. HUGS

IUI - Immune issues - success (pg mentioned)

I have immune issues and I did have one child with FET. We decided to go for number two and I am APA and ANA positive. I got a BFP with IUI, first month. I was on all the immune drugs, ie lovenox and steroids for my treatment. I have tested low positive for NK cells but chose not to treat. I think the key was the meds I was on.

I have immune issues and conceived my DS as well as a brand new little one on the way through IUI. I also have clotting issues and have treated both times with Lovenox/Folguard and Prednisone.

Yes, you can. You'll likely want a medicated cycle though, because they can control that better. I used GonalF, with IUI and conceived triplets. Lost one at 5w, another at 8.5w and kept my daughter, born 4.5 weeks preterm. I had a raft of immune issues, did IVIg and Lovenox. My daughter's now two and two months!
