What are all this meds for?

Hi. I´m kinda new here, and I was just going through some posts and kept reading about prednisone and lovenox. Can anyone tell me what they are for? Maybe it´s something I can talk to me RE about. Thanks.

Predinsone is used to treat ANA and APA. While lovenox is used to treat APA. You did not mention whether you had had any of the testing for immune issues. There is a sticky on Dr. Beer testing that shows what is recommended.

Hi, yes I had the testing done years ago, and I don´t know any of the names, but I do remember some parts came positive, like 2 things came positive. I don´t understand what the ANA or APA stuff is, but now atleast I know those are used to treat immune problems, right. Thanks for your help.

ANA is Antinuclear antibodies - this is kind of an inflammatory response.

How is it used?
The ANA test is ordered to help screen for autoimmune disorders and is most often used as one of the tests to diagnose systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Depending on the patient’s symptoms and the suspected diagnosis, ANA may be ordered along with one or more other autoantibody tests. Other laboratory tests associated with presence of inflammation, such as erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and/or C-reactive protein (CRP) may also be ordered. ANA may be followed by additional tests that are considered subsets of the general ANA test and that are used in conjunction with the patient’s clinical history to help rule out a diagnosis of other autoimmune disorders.

APA is antiphosolipid anitbodies - This is typically associated with blood clotting issues.

Why get tested?
To help investigate inappropriate clot formation; to help determine the cause of recurrent miscarriage; to evaluate a prolonged PTT (partial thromboplastin time); as part of an evaluation for antiphospholipid antibody syndrome

When to get tested?
When you have a prolonged PTT test; when you have had recurrent unexplained venous or arterial blood clots; when you have had recurrent miscarriages, especially in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters
