weight gain & intralipids

I had 100ml of 20% intralipids done this week as ordered by dr. t of sirm. the package states that each 100ml has 200kcal. ladies, that's 200,000 calories! ive been searching for any known side effects and havent found any side effects quoting weight gain. i would suspect having that many calories within a 2 hr period forced into your veins would cause major weigh gain. its been 2 days since the infusion and i'm terrified to weigh myself.
also if i get pg, im suppose to continue this tx every 28 days.

anyone experience weight gain as a result of intralipid infusion?

thanks.

Lynn,
How do you come up with 200,000 kcal? I'm taking a nutrition course and Cal and kcal are the same so it is 200 calories or kcal I believe.

I see the link. I just know that cal are the same as kcal. kilo is 1000 but in this case I do not think that applies. No way would you get 200,000 cal in a transfusion. I will see if I can find something in my class notes that I can post. Give me some time--my mother is having surgery tomorrow and I'll be tied up for a few days. Thanks! HUGS.

Lynn,
The definition in my nutrition book for kilokalorie (kcal) - The heat energy needed to raise the temperature of 1000g (1 liter) of water 1 degree Celsius.

1 kcal = 1,000 calories = 1 Calorie (Note the capitalization). A Calorie is better known as a dietary Calorie. So, 1 kcal equals 1 dietary Calorie.

calorie (cal): A unit of energy often used when measuring the energy content of food. The amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of one gram of water one degree Celsius.
dietary (food) calorie (Calorie or Cal or kcal): A unit of energy equal to one kilocalorie. The dietary calorie is often used when measuring the energy content of food.
kilocalorie (kcal or Calorie or Cal): A unit of energy equal to 1000 calories. A kilocalorie is equal to 1 Calorie (dietary calorie). The amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of one kilogram of water one degree Celsius

Not sure if this helps at all!
