Immune Question

I am a 29 yr old military wife living in NJ. I have had 6 failed IUI's and 1 failed IVF (just this month). I have unexplained IF. Had laperoscopy a year ago that revealed mild endo. When I got last BFN I asked RE about immune testing and she said we really only do that when a woman has had repeated miscarriages. And I said what about a woman who is healthy and there is no reason for her IF. Apparently all RE's in practice (there are about 7 and embryologist get together to talk about next step/next protocol. Do you all think I should push the immune testing issue. I actually have insurance that pays for IVF (gotta Love NJ) but only 2 more tries and I want the best odds. Just wondering what your thoughts were.
Thanks in advance for your advice. You ladies really seem to know your stuff.
Lori

Hi Lori...
Yes, I don't see why not get the reassurance of ruling out any possible antibodies that are interfering with your fertility!?!

sorta amazing how the docs like to work "backwards"... let's keep trying to spend more of your money without really knowing whether there is any 'gas in the car before we start the engine' sort of thinking huh? and then after enuf $$ spent we can try some of those type of tests...!!

And the BIGGEST flaw that you can throw up at the base doc is that implantation failure (not actually m/c) is the most common (and most often undetected) problem related to immune issues -so waiting til a m/c may never happen if you are already experiencing implantation failure (which is basically what failing IVF is right?) - sorry for it not working btw

hopefully you can sway them to do the testing to rule anything out... however, be advised that there are certain specific forms of testing that are best done thru very specific labs/clinics -if your doc is good enuf you could start with the Repromedix lab or look into the clinics at the sticky threads that can get bloodwork done from you even long-distance -this way you will be sure not to overlook important testings that could give you an answer one way or the other.

regards, Ally

I agree Ally... they seem to work backwards and it really makes me furious since I just put myself through all that and they did not look into this first to either to rule out immune issues or give me the best chance!! I did look at the stickies and the haveababy.com SIRM practice has offices about hour and half away. I certainly would be willing to travel that distance if they really know what they are doing. I love my RE but if they are going to go down this road with me I will find someone who will.
I hope you find the right person for you that will help you bring #2 into the world.
Thanks for all your knowledge, I hope this is what I need, at least it would explain all the failure.
Lori
