Aspirin and SCH question (pg ment.)

This was posted on the gen. pg board and high risk, but it was suggested I post here as well....thanks,

Aspirin and SCH question
I was wondering if anyone knew if baby aspirin has any effect one way or another on a subchorionic hemorrhage. I was scheduled to stop the baby aspirin today, but before they found the SCH. The dr. said to go ahead and just stop it, but it makes me uncomfortable to just stop...I thought you had to wean off of it. I have never been tested for clotting disorders and it's been 16 years since I got pg the first time...I'm just really nervous about stopping it...
If it has no effect then I'm fine with it...but I've read so much conflicting stuff on the internet I was just hoping someone had first hand experience with this. I've been on the baby aspirin since starting my IVF cycle and I'm 11 weeks today.

I had the u/s to see if there was a reason for the spotting, and have yet to see the dr. afterwards. They said to just come for my scheduled appt. on the 24th.
The nurse gave me info about SCH over the phone and I've learned online about it, but I'm still a little confused as to what it is...a clot? a tear? And maybe if I knew that it would help me feel better about the aspirin...

Thanks for listening to me and for any advice given...
Mandy

Hi Mandy,

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Okay, a few thoughts.

First, have a thrombophilia panel run. Just make your doctor do it. It makes absolutely NO sense to be in the dark about this. In addition, if you have MTHFR, you'll need baby aspirin and Folgard (or a similiar high-dose folic acid) for the rest of your life. SCH is a common problem for women with thrombophilia, so that should be considered a red flag. You should be tested for:

- MTHFR
- Factor V Leiden
- Factor II Prothrombin
- Antiphospholipid Antibodies.

Second, stopping baby aspirin while a SCH heals is quite common. There is no such thing as "weaning" yourself off baby aspirin. The question is whether to go back on it, and your answer will come through the thrombophilia testing.

Hope that's helpful!

Kind wishes,
Lauren

P.S. Here is a brief, helpful description of what you are experiencing.

I agree with Lauren. I had a sch in my pg with ds when I was not aware of my clotting problems as well as a subsequent pg which failed. The pg failed, but because of the underlying clotting issues, not the sch.

Congrats on your pg!!

Thanks for replying to my question. Late this afternoon I spoke to my OB's nurse and to make a long story short they say that the dr. doesn't think it was a SCH after all and just a cluster of blood vessels that burst above my cervix probably from intercourse or straining of some sort....while I am very relieved, I am also upset for all the worry and tears from the weekend and yesterday.

My mom did tell me today though that she and her father both have a clotting disorder but it causes them NOT to clot and I did tell the OB and they will be testing me soon....

Again, thanks for taking the time to reply...
