Hi...I'm new (m/c mentioned)

Hi all,

I've had 2 miscarriages, and thankfully that was enough for me to be referred to an RE. He's done lots of testing (unfortunately I don't have a record of exactly what), and he tells me I have hetero MTHFR, and antiphospholipid syndrome. However, I don't know what specific antibodies were elevated, or what the levels were. I had the bloodwork a little over a month after my second D&C and then redone a week later.

Since he called me with this news, I've had an endometrial biopsy (today) and will be seeing him again in 2 weeks for "the complete diagnosis." I guess my question is, what should I ask when I get in to see him? He's already got me on 5mg of folic acid, and baby aspirin. He mentioned the possibility of heparin injections, but didn't prescribe anything yet. I called today to ask if I indeed need heparin, I want to start this cycle (around CD6, from what I've read here?)

Any pointers? Can I really safely have a baby with all of this? Thanks for any insights!

Yes, certainly you can safely have a baby with the antibodies/condition MTHFR you describe.

Heparin should generally be prescribed for each of those conditions, and yes for cd6 if you are in hopes of ttc'ing this month. It has better impact in securing an implantation if begun prior to ovulation as it helps blood vessels deliver proper blood to uterus and ensures that no miniscule clots arise at an early stage that could negatively affect any prg.

You should continue the heparin and baby aspirin right thru to term on a prg. and post delivery remain on a 6 wk regime of heparin during that hypercoagulative stage of post-partum.

and also this info about MTHFR may help:
please read at this more recent thread :

as there are some good explanations in there..
basically clotting problem and needs nutritional support with Folgard.

take care and best of luck, real soon!
