help! in hospital and stopped heparin

i was admitted tues with a funnelling cervix and am here for the duration of my pg but because I am so unstable they have stopped the hep and ba for now. i dialated to 3cms and have a very short cervix. only 29 weeks with twins tomorrow but am scared something may happen off the hep. i understand their reasoning because of possibly going into labor but what do I do to insure my babies safety?

Lisa,

Are you a patient of Dr. Beer? Because this is exactly the kind of question to ask him directly. I would hesitate to recommend anything, personally, because I just don't know. You and your babies are in my prayers!!

Dr. Beer's office is (408) 356-9500 if that helps.

Best wishes,
Lauren :

Oh Lisa.... I'm so sorry to hear about this!... your prg. sure hasn't been an easy one with those twins....

I don't know what to say either about staying/stoppin heparin considering the seriousness of your situation.

I pray that the hospital will make the best decisions and/or make sure you have the complete medical attn. required to help keep you and the babies safe.

I guess making a call directly to Dr.Beer or posting him a question might help too....
Please know I'm thinking about you lots...
Ally

Hi,

I recognized your name from other bb's and wanted to chime in on a few things....

First, has your doctor done a vaginal culture (taken in sterile conditions like a pap smear) to test for vaginal infection. Undetected infections are prevalent amongst women with IF and immune issues and one of the biggest contributing factors to cervical issues (I was plagued by this in both of my twin pg's).

Second, and FWIW, I had to have an emergency c-section to deliver my twins (who are now 2) and had taken my second heparin shot of the day just a few hours before my delivery. I did not experience any excessive bleeding and all ended well.

I was in exactly your position with Caden. My water had broken. They managed to stop labour but I was extremely unstable.

They did not stop the heparin or baby aspirin. Since I had already faced the stillbirth of one child at 34 wks, they consulted with the hematologist and determined that it was vital to the wellbeing of the baby I was carrying to continue with it.

I had my last shot of heparin at 11pm, went back into labour and delivered by emergency c-section at 3:14 am. I had no ill effects from it. I continued on the heparin for 6 wks post surgery.

One thought would be to have an u/s done to determine if the baby is continuing to develop on target, they can also look for potential blood clots at that point and determine if it will make a diffference to your pregnancy if you stay off the heparin.
